EDIT: Damn it, just remembered that there was a quick answers thread. Sorry!

I've got a couple of questions in regards to the game.

1. Is it possible to load a save in game or do I have to quit the game and then load a save?

2. What strategies can I use to win a defensive war against an enemy stronger than I am? I got attacked by the ERE and even though I had a lot of levies, they had way more. What can I do to avoid losing the war and losing counties?

1. Simply resign then load a new save game.
2. I'd suggest allying with a larger faction or if that's not possible try and use attrition to your advantage by pulling the larger troops into attrition weak areas where they'll loose lots of their troops. It's a none fact the AI's shit with dealing with attrition. And in a worst-case scenario surrender the land till your strong enough to take it back.

1) Pretty sure you would have to quit and reload.

2) If it is early in the game, when armies are not big enough to exceed supply limits, you're kind of hosed, but later in the game it gets easier. Keep cool and don't worry about losing a few holdings. Try to deny the enemy the coast and let attrition do the work for you, especially when the AI starts taking losses from storming holdings. Do not lose men to attrition or storming, plenty of time to take holdings once the enemy army is wiped out. Recruit the best generals you can find on the character search, organizer and flanker are two skills where I gladly pay a little gold to lure them to my court. If your stack is a little smaller, make them attack you across straights or rivers or in mountains or hills. If a lot bigger, put your organizer in command and play whack-a-mole with them. Hope this helps.

1. Dont use save/load you gonna lose spice of his game. Its you and your decisions, you make them and you pay for them.
2. Try avoiding this situations. I suggest you took Croatia or Hungary, then you should know since 1.07 EHE is extreemly agresive towards all its de jure teritories, only way you could do is to join them. In some cases mercenaries can help, if you got 1500-2000 gold, hire 3 best mercenary units and fast assault nearest holdings to get 100% warscore before doomstacks come, also you can try assainate one who declares war on you and enjoy civil war at your enemy, in this case you will be its least prority. If this is press claim war, you can assasinate claimant to stop war. You alliances matter only vs minor opponents, it will not help vs things like ERE, Fatimids or HRE.
