Long time reader, first time poster.

(1) Say if I took province Y from country X via a peace treaty, but the game still says,"X considers province Y a core province", is there anyway to make province Y become my core province?

(2) Same as above, but if country X has already been annexed, what can I do to change province Y to become my core?

(3) Are there any pros and cons for owning a province that someone else considers it's a core?

(4) I imprisoned a few enemy generals tried to wreck havoc in my lands, in the diplomacy interface, I can only release them. Can I actually get some ransom money out of them?

Thanks in advance.

Ignore him...

The province becomes one of your cores after 50 years, and country X loses it as a core after 75 I believe.

(2) Same as above, but if country X has already been annexed, what can I do to change province Y to become my core?

Same as above. You just have to wait :)

(3) Are there any pros and cons for owning a province that someone else considers it's a core?

None, besides that it gives the other country a casus belli on you, meaning they're much more likely to declare war in the future if they think they can take you.

(4) I imprisoned a few enemy generals tried to wreck havoc in my lands, in the diplomacy interface, I can only release them. Can I actually get some ransom money out of them?

As of yet I have never seen the AI offer a ransom for their captured generals. Hopefully we'll see this in a future patch.

Conquered provinces become cores after they have been part of your nation long enough. 50 years if I remember correctly.

If some other nation considers one of your provinces to be core, then they have free casus belli on you, and might try to take their cores from you in war.

AI doesn't seem to ransom it's captured generals, so there's really no other option than release them, or hold them captive until they die off.

What you've said... perhaps there is some wisdom into it. :p

Sigh...But I can't give up just like that, can I? Thanks for your response though.

Still waiting for answers for the original questions.

Thank you both Deus and DarthJF.

I keep getting the "Server is too busy" thing on this forum. So I'll make it short:

I guess I'll just have to wait for the core province issue to wear out. And the only thing I can do with prisoners is to release them.

Now I'll go back playing the game. I appreciate your help and wish you all happy gaming. Thanks!

When you negotiate peace offers, you can ask the other country to give up cores in addition to ceding provinces. It's the other tab when you are selecting the provinces that you wish to gain.

Thanks, Edvardivs.

That was precisely what I was wondering.

So if I choose "give up core" from them, they'll give up the core provinces plus ceasing the territories to me?

(Not that I'm too lazy to try it out myself, but the opportunity don't come very often.)

Thanks.

Actually, by giving up the core status (which is like a claim upon that land), they do not give up the territory physically. They simply release their claim, acknowledging in most cases that someone else is the rightful owner of that land.

When they renounce claims in a peace treaty, it's usually because (in fact, I don't think it's possible any other way) you already hold those provinces. It's simply that now your enemy is less likely to try to take them back from you.

It's a way of easing future tensions, and preventing that conflicting claim of ownership from causing future wars.

Thanks, Rensslaer.

So the terms of "give up cores" and "cease territories" work separately. I should 1st ask them for the former, then go for the latter in the next war.

(Just a rant: If I were Caesar, and need to go through all this to get a piece of land, then I might as well just stay home and not invade anyone. )

Thanks for your reply. I think I can cope with that in the game.

The AI will offer to pay the ransom for its captured people, if it has enough money. Since the AI is almost always broke, you hardly ever get offers. By the later game once most of the improvements are built the AI actually starts to carry a balance, and ransom offers become more frequent then.

In either case, NEVER release prisoners. If you keep them long enough, they usually switch sides and become available to you. I've gotten some decent governors and generals from captured prisoners, and they're usually very loyal.

Roger that. I'll just hang on to those prisoners to see what happen. Thanks.
