Is staging a coup in this game and changing government too easy?

It seems all Daniel had to do last stream is spent some political power and boom, Yugoslavia changed to communism. Is there no way for Yugoslavia to counter this attempt to change government?

I assume it will be expanded upon in the espionage expansion.

I also became curious how this plays out in multiplayer. If it's this easy vs humans everyone will just stage coups everywhere to start civil wars and mess with the internal politics completely. There has to be a way to defend yourself.

Yugoslavia is Non-Aligned at start, they're more vulnerable to foreign ideology pressure than other ideologies. To defend, you can appoint ministers of your own ideology to spread it (except if you're Non-Aligned).

But that doesnt explain how Facist Spain could be influenced so quickly. As a fascist dictatorship it whould be harder to make a coup there than a neutral non alligned country

Yugoslavia change to communism by peacefully, but there should be an event like they did as France that gives them the choice to accept demands or face a civil war. Look at spain, coups arent easy

I think attempting the coup was fine, they lost pretty soundly and cost a lot of communist support. What I wonder is, how much more effective could that've been if Daniel had raised Communist influence more before couping?

There are ministers and national ideas that increase and decrease popularity of ideologies. This could help you to defend againts foreign powers trying to boost popularity of their parties. And my understanding is that a coup needs sufficient party popularity to be successful.

If I remember correctly, every country gets a fascist, communist and democratic minister, and I think they influence party membership exactly as much as the boost party membership thing does.
So as a neutral one you can't really stay neutral, but as any other ideology it should be possible to defend against this.

There is speculation that a guy called the compassionate gentleman boosts non-aligned governments, but that's unproven. More importantly though, countries under influence should be the subject of a tug-of-war; if France is swaying Yugoslavia to the left, the Germany AI should pick up on it and spend PP to counteract it, on the harder playing levels anyway.

The Compassionate Gentleman (from the Hungary stream) increases "Monthly Opinion by +15%", whatever that means. I would guess it helps you "improve relations" with other countries.

Don't get caught up in smal mini-games, it's a world war 2 simulator.

Choose your faction, build an army and fight.
I don't think small politic mini-games are the big focus here.

Eh, picking one's side wisely and, if one's in the position to, recruiting the right people in it is probably going to be very important. Every nation, country and creed you lure on your side is one more to fight for you, one less to fight for THEM.

That said, I don't expect any country to have enough PP to perform more than one or two coups during the game without sacrificing some more important use for PP.

I hope I meet lots of people with that opinion in multiplayer.
My point being, picking sides as a player shouldn't take too long nor be too difficult since this isn't a game heavily based on functions like that.

Picking a political ideology as a player should be pretty swift, you shouldn't be going through years of purge and civil war just so you can join AI axis/Germany

Edit: I wasn't talking about any multiplayer games. Op complained Daniel could change his political ideology too fast/easily, and my argument was based on that.

The target country has option to strengthen its current ideology, which should counter the foreign influence. Worst case, they can choose to fight civil war when push comes to shove, rather than change peacefully.

For Soloplay its totally fine, because its really up to yourself if you choose to do it or not.
If you are not go "historical" it is nice to set up things, if you stick to a more historical approach...just dont use it.
It perfectly fits the sandbox style. You can do it, but there is totally no need for it. So if you feel a coup in GB is cheating, just dont do it.
Btw, wasnt different in HoI 3 on a smaller scale. German-American Bund 1940 was possible and a big thing if you did get it done.

In MP...just decide to not do it or invest in the same countries to negate their influence. Whatever rules the mp round is setting up.
(I hope for an option, but i feel there will be none.)
