Ok, so I need some help for an idea I am trying to do, basically i want to try to tie modifiers to the number of counties that follow a certain religion, so for example to try to make it so that the pope could get 0.01 prestige or piety from every county following Catholicism. so i am wondering if there is a value that can be used to represent the number of counties following a religion? thank you and I am sorry for the bad formatting of this post

You could have a yearly event which counts the number of provinces of a certain religion and change a variable on the religious head or his title, then depending on the value of that variable apply different modifiers of levels of stacked modifiers that give him prestige/piety

ok, thanks for your help, but umm, I'm newish to modding and am still trying to learn many things, so I have absolutely no idea how to do the first part, the event modding.
Category:Modding - Crusader Kings II Wiki
This contains everything you will need. Read up specifically on the event page and the scripting page and it should get you started with the basics to then do what you want after a bit of experimentation

ok, so I have looked at the help page and the one thing I can't find is how to count the number of provinces following a religion inside of the event, everything else I can basically figure out
In some event do this:
Code:
any_province = {
    limit = { religion = catholic }
    province_event = { id = test.1 }
}
Then have the effects of that event be this:
Code:
province_event = {
    id = test.1
    is_triggered_only = yes
    hide_window = yes

    immediate = {
        k_papal_state = { change_variable = { which = "number_catholic_counties" value = 1 } }
    }
}

Then based on what that variable is do stuff

ok, so one other question, can I directly use the variable in a trait for example, say monthly_character_piety = (0.05*number_catholic_counties)
Nope, you would need to do stacking modifiers based on the number of counties.

where can I find how to do that

I did something similar to have an "engineer" minor title add a modifier per stewardship point, perhaps it can be helpful to you as an example:

Code:
add_engineer_effect = { #scoped to the minor title holder
   export_to_variable = { which = "minor_title_effect_count" value = stewardship }
   while = {
       limit = { check_variable = { which = minor_title_effect_count value = 1 } }
       liege = {
           add_character_modifier = {
               name = engineer
               hidden = yes
               stacking = yes
               duration = -1
           }
       }
       subtract_variable = { which = minor_title_effect_count value = 1 }
   }
}

ok I am having a problem trying to get the event to add the stacking modifier to work could you look at it and tell me what is wrong

here are the three events that are being used, the final one I can't even run using console commands

character_event = {
id = "thegods.499"
is_triggered_only = yes
hide_window = yes
religion = the_light
trigger = {
trait = kingofthegods
}
immediate = {
any_province = {
limit = { religion = the_light }
province_event = { id = thegods.500 }
}
}
}

province_event = {
id = "thegods.500"
is_triggered_only = yes
hide_window = yes

immediate = {
change_variable = { which = global_lightcount value = 1 } }
}
}

character_event = {
id = "thegods.498"
is_triggered_only = yes
hide_window = yes
religion = the_light
trigger = {
trait = kingofthegods
}
immediate = {
while = {
limit = {check_variable = { which = global_lightcount value = 1 } }
add_character_modifier = {
name = followers
hidden = no
stacking = yes
duration = -1
}
}
subtract_variable = { which = global_lightcount value = 1 }
}
}

Well one thing I can see straight of is that you have the subtract variable part not inside the while so it will never go down and end once you have done all the run throughs of it for each province.

ok, now I have a different problem, because I have these modifiers on a player's character, how do I keep them from overwhelming the screen when hovering over piety, cause now each stack makes a new line

That is why I think it is a good idea to make the modifier hidden. Otherwise AFAIK there is no way.
