Guidelines for a possible Russian one...

Start with "After the collapse of the Soviet Union", go on about the new government and the significant events between 1992-2000 (Chechnya, Yugoslavia. government reforms etc). Put much effort in describing the worsening situation in the social, economic and military sectors. After that, begin to elaborate on Putin and his reforms. End with some "what next?" stuff for Russia (improving the economy, foreign relations, ending the Chechnya conflict etc).

heres one for Norway, (If you think its just silly, please bear with me, i'm not a professional writer or anything..)

"During the second world war norway was occupied by germany. The people didn’t want to stay neutral and defenceless to any major power forever and in 1949, Norway joined NATO. Being the only NATO-country sharing a border with the Soviet Union, Norway saw much tension which could escalate into a war. In the 1960s and 70s, Norway discovered oil and gas in the north sea and quickly claimed the black gold. This income helped Norway rebuild the country and build a welfare state. Today, Norway is said to be the best country to live in. The Norwegian military is not big, but well equipped, and only sees combat as an expeditionary force for NATO or UN. Norway has in recent years gained the reputation as an enthusiastic negotiator in international politics."

hmm turkey was also a NATO member but i guess they were used to send their soldiers on the frontline only

ahem. a description if you see fit

" After the democrats rising to power in 1950 turkey left its former goal to be completely independant but turned into US help and converted to the liberal economy which resulted as a complete disaster. In 1967(?) turkey applied for the membership of EU but they were turned down because of the great human rights problem and in future by kurdish rebellions. Being a possible front againist the Soviet Union, turks paid a lot of money to armaments but instead they used them againist cyprus which caused them to be hated by Europe, Now both europe and soviets againist them turks went closer to the americans ignoring their continous insults only a vote in 2003 about givig military acess to US made people remember they were a democracy once "

It's pretty good, but I have tried a little re-write here:

"Despite Norway's proclaimed its neutrality in WWII, which had kept them out of war in WWI, they were unable to avoid a five-year occupation by Nazi-Germany. This pawed way for a new line of thought, and with the growing threat of the Soviet Union, neutrality was abandoned, and Norway became a funding member of Nato in 1949. Norway was regarded as the "difficult member" of Nato, due to their refusal of placing nuclear weapons on Norwegian soil, and creating their own middle way in the relationship between the US and Soviet Union.

During the 1960's discovery of oil and in adjacent waters led to a considerable boost in the economy, and took the first steps of creating the modern welfare state. Norway is the third biggest exporter of oil in the world.

Today, Norway enjoys one of the world's highest standards of living, and one of the countrys goal is to prepare for the day when oil reserves may run out. The military has taken the first steps from mainly conscripts towards a proffesional army, and is today a relativly small and well armed, and experts in winter warfare. Enjoying a political shift, the military is now getting more funding than it has for a long time.

The Soviet Union is gone, and relations with all european nations are high. Although initially against the recent American war in Iraq, Norway still has very close relations with the US, though there is a growing political wish for a more eurocentric view."

Not the best, but I think it sums up the United State's position quite nicely, and you guys are more than welcome to edite it in any way you see fit:
"At the dawn of a new millennium the United States stood as the undisputed super power of the world. With a strong military and industrial tradition many questions where left unanswered with the fall of the Soviet Union, and an end to the Cold War: what was to be done with the ailing and sometimes stagnant economy, what policy should be followed in the Middle East, how should the increasingly independent nations of Europe be treated, and finally how should the People's Republic of China be dealt with in a post Cold War situation. Many of these questions became much more pressing with the Terrorist Attacks of September 11, and the United States found herself with an even more questionable future than before."

Do not think the United States was the undisputed superpower of the world in the Cold War era, and she definitely knew where her country was heading (to fight the reds at every possible turn). Like I said though, your more than welcome to mess with it in any way you want:)

Ahh, didn't know you actually wanted to much about the past, and truly not to sure about how to fit it in. Like I said though feel free to mess with it any way you wish, you probably have a much better idea about what to say about Cold War USA.

Well, We don't want TOO MUCH about the past, but maybe a little info about the past. Your description was pretty good, but maybe you should add jsut a tiny bit of pre-modern info. Thanks.
