In one of the first patches I finished 2nd with Haiti (but with African minor edited in as culture) and industrialised most of Africa... But first with USA, UK, Germany (from Prussia), France, Italy (from Sardinia-P), Austria, Sweden and Belgium, was just a hundred points away from the top with Denmark.

Siam, Punjab and Persia just need to get over the initial hurdle. Then they can industrialize China. After that it's a cakewalk.

Frankfurt am Main can spend itself into a hole to get an army and then go on an annex and satellite spree through Germany.

Serbia was a lot harder though. While you can expand into the sclerotic OE it still takes a large amount of skill to get them to no.1 I had to annex Germany for it to happen
