In the next UK general election, there will be some who look at the without-scotland results, and say that if the vote had been YES the election would have resulted in ___

In Canada, we have sometimes done the same for a country without Quebec.

I'm curious what other countries you could do this for (logically, not just some random country with some random bit missing, but some bit that has 'reason' to go)

And what results it would mean.

US without the south.

In this I include all the modern states the Confederacy considered part of their nation in whole.
This means the traditional confederacy, but not West Virginia, but does include Missouri, Kentucky, and Oklahoma.

changes:

Presidential Elections:
All Democrats in recent history would have still won.
In 2004, Kerry would have beat Bush, 251 to 107
In 2000, Gore would have won by a similarly large margin
Reagan and Bush Sr would still have won their elections
Ford would have beat Carter
In 1956, Stevenson would have not won a single electoral vote
And in 1948, Dewey really would have beat Truman.

That goes back to WW2.

In Congress, the Republicans would be weakened in this century, to get exact numbers would require more counting time.
