counters

since i couldn't find anything on wiki.

i assigned a new counter to u06 "counter_u06", but in game, its still showing u06 using the very default counter (the crappy chequered one.) what do you actually need to do to make a country run a counter?

note that the counter i created is in the right format and such.

(the counters have to be 8-bit, not 24-bit)

That's the problem. The counter is 8 bit.

Try the countermaking tool and see if that works.

I don't think it is so simple as just saving your image as an 8-bit bmp file, the palette used has to be exactly the same as used for the Paradox counters. So if there are colours in your counter image that are not palette compatible, the game engine will reject it and use a counter of the base colour (used by another country) instead.

Thanks again, but I did use the countermaking tool. However, I'll try it again with some of the basic counters (like eng or fra) to see if it works with those.

Hmm, odd.

A few things:

1) Read and see my tutorial in the thread I linked (at the end) if you haven't already done so.
2) Basics: The flag must be 14x9 pixels and be placed within the black border on the counter. The roundel (should you wish one) has to be no bigger than 10x10 and placed within the boundary (grey on some counters, invisible in others) to be shown.
3) You cannot recolour the base counter. The counter HAS to be of a colour already existing in the game (so alter an existing counter).

I know that the counter works because I've just tried it with another tag (counter_geo) and it worked fine. I've tried the following:

-Removing the nation from the .EUG, loading, quitting, adding it again
-Removing the units from the .inc, loading, quitting, adding it again

Any ideas ?

I'm using moddir, btw.

OK, try this.

Place your u06 counter in both the moddir/palette foder and your main palette folder.

Sometimes moddir is a little funny if it doesn't have a property to 'change'.
