I strongly believe the 1.03 (and most presumably 1.04 also) could benefit from more reactive muslim forces.

Many times the Fatamids (?) fall apart and the sheikdoms around Jerusalem are easy targets. So i take the holy land and I don't get a reaction.

Now doesn't it seem difficult to find the right balance? When you make the Muslims strong and also less kingdom caving in, they will take Jerusalem back in a few weeks and when they are too weak, they'll never take/try to take it back.

For the moment Jerusalem is a very easy target. Shouldn't the Muslim AI get a reinforcment after some time to do something with?

something like counter crusade - but only focussed on the core of the holy land?

Mecca and medina should also be better protected as Its too easy to convert them to anything :) there should be holy wars to try to take these 2 back if taken right?

What, giving muslims all techs and putting them in superalliances isn't enough?

I've NEVER seen any Islamic empire fall apart, ever. And perhaps if taking Jerusalem is too easy, you should do it only with the forces of a few counties (aka what happened historically), instead of your entire army. :)

Well, if you have easily taken Jerusalem, you are likely much stronger than any moslem kingdom. AI most often dows sensibly, at neighbours who are weaker than it. Alliances can change that, but if you are strong enough even the allies of your target back down.

I prefer sensible AI than suicidal AI, really.

no my friend. Not suicide - I meant like something that mobilises the muslims to take back Jerusalem,

honestly, in my games it's very easy to take it and more annoying to keep it. Yes - I would like to loose it more so you can take it back later,

there's no piety gathered for inheriting Jerusalem, only for taking it back from Muslims :)

The explaination to why the Fatamids fall in is two-fold. First, we have the standard problem with AI not being able to keep track of its vassals or angrying its population. Second, there is a specific problem related to Muslims because they cannot release vassals, but they still suffer demesene penalties. The effect for a large kingdom such as the Fatamids is that they make almost zero money due to extreme demesne inefficiency, are struck down by evil events continiously, and most importantly their regiment sizes become a laugh of their potential strength (related to income again). The situation is so bad that (if it was not fixed in 1.04 which I have not had too much time to read in detail), I often see the Fatamids with armies of 5000 to 15000 men (depending on accumulation) for such a huge bunch of wealthy provinces. I think they would in theory be able to field at least five to ten times that amount if only they could make a proper living from their provinces.

+ they managed to turn Alexandria into almost uncolonized province..
how? they have Constant revolts. all the time
and most of their provincesh have no fortification nor province upgrades

It would be interesting if the Muslim states could declare a Jihad.

Onther other hand, if you're not that strong compared to the allies of the target, they have not qualms about pouncing upon you like a rabid pitbull.

I experienced it when playing the principalty of Poltock and attacking the Couran tribe. The alliance cascade gathered against me the folling :

* first lettigalians, then the estonians and another tribe, quickly joined by the whole lot of finland's pagans, a pagan vassal of swede, then his king. I managed to kick the lettigalians, but got my armies wiped by the swedes, after that the pagans seized my now defenseless domains, ending the game for good. Ouch.

All this for having attacked a lone tribe.

Why not lend from the core province idea from EU2. Split the Muslims in three groups: Al Andalus muslims, Middle East muslims, and the rest, then make all the starting (1066) provinces core provinces, so that the moment one of their core provinces are taken they become more agressive, but if no core provinces are taken, they are peaceful and inefficient.

You'd prevent a Muslim jihad to nuke the Spanish kingdoms and France, as all to often happens. Only problem remains are the ofetn dumb Iberian AI DOWing on the vastly superiour Muslim states, that needs to be fixed separately.

And you'd get these kind of crusade waves. Fatimids weak -> easy conquest of Jeruzalem -> Fatimids and others go into agressive AI mode -> reconquer Jeruzalem -> back to passive mode -> perhaps repeat, depends on tech, AI tweaking.
