I welcome myself onboard.

Down to business now...
This game I'm having I started as Duke of Austria in 1187...
So I was wondering if I gain control over the lands historically posessed by the Kingdom of Austria, either under the liege of the HRE, the Kingdom of Hungary or even on my own if I can help it, will I be able to create the title of King of Austria for myself out of my possesions?
Though It would be a tad a-historic that, since the KoA didn't come around till the early 1800s which is well without the timeframe provided but anyway...say I'm some Hapsburg on speed and I manage to pull it of...can i be king?
Even better...after being crowned KoA could I go on and join the Kingdom of Hungary(or conquer them if they won't have me) and hopefully turn into the Austro-Hungarian Empire??? Now that would be awesome!!!!
I should add that in my game I've extended my iron grip over all the historically Austrian lands(and then some!!!) but I am still just a fat Duke of Austria...I declared independence from the HRE and still nothing...just an independent fat Duke of Austria now...then lastly I got fed up and finally decided to join the Hungarian Kigdom in the hope of bringing about the Austro-Hungarian Empire as mentioned before...but still nothing...I just turned into my ultimate alter ego...the Hungarian ex-independent fat Duke of Austria and that's it...
Well at the very least after having joined the Hungarians for quite a while now, I managed to marry my daughters off to the right people in the Hungarian court and it might not be long before I see my kin claiming the Hungarian throne...Amen

You can mod it in though, it is very easy.
I managed to mod in the Kingdom of Holland within 15 minutes, and I'm a complete idiot when it comes to computers.
There is a modding guide somewhere around these forums, and I'm sure someone knows where it is.

There was never a 'Kingdom of Austria', Austria was a duchy and later an 'archduchy'. Actually the first king title the Habsburgs had was the hungarian.

The king titles near your starting position: Hungary, Croatia, Poland, Bohemia, HRE, Italy, Burgundy and - I think it is kingdom tier - Venice also.

Alright agreed...I took notice of your objections and went through wikipedia looking for info....
Well if they got it right there was an Austrian Empire(and not a kingdom but gamewise there's not much difference between the two) with the Hapsburgs at its helm prior to the formation of the Austro-Hungarian empire.
The first Austrian emperor was Emperor Francis I of Austria and the lands it consisted of were these:
* Kingdom of Bohemia (Königreich Böhmen)
* Kingdom of Hungary (Königreich Ungarn)
* Kingdom of Illyria
* Kingdom of Croatia (Königreich Kroatien) including the Military Frontier (Militärgrenze) from 1578–1871
* Kingdom of Slavonia (Königreich Slowenien) subordinate to Croatia 1744-1849; independent subdivision 1849-1868
* Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria (Königreich Galizien und Lodomerien)
* Kingdom of Lombardy–Venetia (Lombardo-Venezianisches Königreich)
* Archduchy of Austria (Erzherzogtum Österreich)
* Duchy of Carinthia (Herzogtum Kärnten)
* Duchy of Carniola (Herzogtum Krain)
* Duchy of Salzburg (Herzogtum Salzburg)
* Duchy of Silesia (Herzogtum Schlesien)
* Duchy of Styria (Herzogtum Steiermark)
* Duchy of Bukovina (Herzogtum Bukowina)
* Grand Principality of Transylvania (Großfürstentum Siebenbürgen)
* Margraviate of Moravia (Markgrafschaft Mähren)
* Princely County of Tyrol (Gefürstete Grafschaft Tirol)
* County of Gorizia and Gradisca (Grafschaft Görz und Gradisca)
* Vorarlberg
* Margraviate of Istria (Istrien)
* Imperial Free City of Trieste
* Serbian Voivodeship and Banat of Temeschwar (Die serbische Wojwodschaft und das temeser Banat)

According to the wiki, it was in 1867 that the Austro-hungarian compromise took place in which the Austrians recognised the equal status of the Hungarian nobles within the empire and thus formed the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Meaning maybe there should be a kingdom of Austria in-game....Maybe the HRE should be king of Austria as well(he's already king of Italy and Burgundy anyway one more title couldn't hurt)...and you would have usurp this title from him once you managed to expand your control over the historical Austrian lands(sans the Hungarian territorries of course)

There never was a kingdom of Austria and the Austrian Empire only was created in 1806, when the HRE was dissolved, and 1806 is centuries after the game ends.

So if you want an Austrian Kingdom you will have to mod it in yourself.

guess I'll have to mod in KoA then...

To create a new CoA just copy/paste the CoA of the duchy of Austria and rename the file.

I think he means Kingdom of Austria (KoA) instead of Coat of Arms (CoA).

And the reason that mr Von Franken is King of Germany,Burgundy and Italy instead of just Emperor of the HRE is a whole other matter.
From what I understand is that there were huge flame wars about this very subject, and it is better to just let it rest :D

A small nitpick, but the first royal title the Habsburgs had, was the title king of the Romans (Rudolph I was elected in 1273), since Rudolph never was able to get his imperial coronation. This Rudolph tried to get his son as king of Hungary and failed, his grandson was briefly king of Bohemia. After that it took a while before they regained any crowns, but they used it to increase their 'Hausmacht'.

Finally whether Venice is Royal, depends on which mod, IIRC it was royal in vanilla CK and CK DV.

I didn't consider the emperor title on purpose, but I did forget about Bohemia! Spot on!

I'm pretty sure the Republic of Venice starts out as a Duke-level title. It seems like I've vassalized them as Sicily.

That's funny because I actually started a game to check, and became King of Venice from Duke of Austria :)

It is Ck1.05, CKDV or a mod might be different. The two levels seem to have different shields too: the king title has a blue one ,the duke title has a red one.

I don't wish to create a flame war or start an argument, but for my curiosity could someone please give a brief summary of why it is called KoG and not HRE? I have been wondering this myself.

Because the Holy Roman Empire covers all ot this

Holy_roman_Empire_Map1.jpg

And the 'kingdom of Germany' was this

image029.jpg

In other words they were not the same, it just happend that the king of Germany was often also the Holy Roman Emperor and if he wasn't then it was at least his ambition to become him.

I see. But how does this translate to EU? I know they have a save game converter, so would the Kingdom of Germany be in game, or what?

Yes. There's a country called Germany in EU2. It corresponds to Kingdom of Germany in CK.
