At some stage they will want to stop doing just quick fixes in 1.1.x, and move onto more significant changes, which would be v1.2.

Source? I don't know much specifically about Swedish holidays but even for European standards that would be excessive.

The dev diaries are going to return mid-late January, as was said on pt 2 of the game jam dev diary. I don't know if that lines up for when they'll fully get back to work, however.
Well if they have a policy of mass vacation, then it has to be long to compensate for not being able to choose the time of your vacation.

It has been months since EU4 had a dev diary until two weeks ago and they are saying they will be on a break?
I don't understand how holidays or vacations work in the Northern Hemisphere, but our holidays are mid-December to early February, Easter break, July-August, October. If I remember correctly, Europeans have a 3 month break, which feels egregious.
Are you talking about school age Europeans I guess. Working age people has something close to a month (Including weekends). Then there’re some holidays spread through the year. But some days on Easter and Christmas, but in Christmas only the days of Christmas, Christmas Eve, new year eve, new year and that, not all the Christmas. The rest are single days spread throughout the year. They don’t amount to 3 months.
Don’t know about Sweden, they seem to have a bit more holidays, but sure not 3 months.
Just because they aren't publishing dev diaries doesn't mean they aren't working. They are most likely back to work in early January, and some of them may even be working between Christmas and new year.

A lot of myths in this thread. No, Europeans don't have 3 month breaks. For Sweden in general, full time employees are entitled to 25 paid vacation days. See for instance this article from Sweden's top trade union: https://www.unionen.se/in-english/annual-vacation
Browsing through some of Paradox's job listings, it looks like they have a company policy of 30 days a year. Being a software company, they are probably pretty flexible in when that vacation can be taken, but most people will likely take the majority during the summer.
Additionally, the 25th and 26th of December plus the 1st, 5th (half a day) and 6th are national holidays.
The thing is, employees can choose when to take their vacation if they can reach an agreement with their supervisor. So some people might choose to take a week before Christmas Day, others might do a week after, etc. It's quite common to combine vacation days with national holidays to get a continuous vacation. It likely takes a few weeks before the team is back at full capacity, but it's not like there's a massive month-long holiday around Christmas.

Even if they will return to work in mid January, they still need to make 1.2, test it (hopefully) and approve release build. It will likely take them a month or two at least, so I think that March/April is the most realistic release date for 1.2.

Between the last patch and Anbeeld, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I hope they take their time and it won’t need a patch for the patch
