I personally like Burgundy. I like their current idea set, and I like their starting position and unique challenges at the beginning of the game. I also don't like them for the sole purpose of forming the Netherlands. Sadly they have hardly any missions or unique events (aside from the Burgundian Inheritance Events for the AI). I know that, historically, due to the Burgundian succession it ceased to exist as an independent player in the European theater, but I don't see why that would stop us from having speculative flavor events when we already have similar situations with other nations--such as Byzantium for example.

Remember that Burgundy rose to its state of power at the beginning of the game only after about 40 years. It was granted to Philip the Bold by his father, King John II in 1404. Through a series of diplomatic marriages and some degree of military conquest, the Burgundian domain became what it was in 1444 at the time of Philip the Good--father of Charles the Bold. While it was fragmented through the Burgundian inheritance after Charles' unfortunate demise, it was quite a feat when you consider how rapidly the territory was expanded from a small Duchy. Not only did they expand rapidly, but they became ridiculously wealthy.

So I think adding some events and missions that reflect their rivalry with France, and diplomatic relations with England, the Habsburgs, and the Iberians would be appropriate. I am sure some events could also be centered around the Order of the Golden Fleece and their diplomatic marriages--in similar manner to Austria. The League of the Public Weal would also be an appropriate event--or perhaps it could be a mission like the Hansa have, which would provide a permanent bonus upon achieving a war goal against France. The League of Public Weal could also give a special CB to reduce the cost of vassal release or something to that effect. Support for York in the War of the Roses would also be good. The Burgundian Wars with Switzerland would also be interesting. Perhaps an event that would grant a diplomatic reputation bonus, like the Reichshofrat for Austria--maybe related to the Golden Fleece.

Even a personal union CB mission against France, once they are sufficiently weakened by comparison--in like manner to the HYW with England--could be interesting. The House of Valois-Burgundy did have a strong claim to the French throne both by ancestry and proximity.

These are just some ideas, but Burgundy really does need some love.
