I'd like to see an event that if the Greeks take Constantinople, the Ottoman captital will move to Ankara, and the Greek will get Constantinople as their Capital. The condition for this would be the Greek occupying at Edirne, Constantinople, Athens and Thessalonika for a week. Sadly this event isn't in the game...

I can't do it myself so could somebody write this for me?

Please?

Why would the Greeks choose Constantinople as their capital instead of Athens? :eek: I never heard they would do it if they owned Constantinople.

He is thinking about reenacting Byzantium.

Note that the triggers don't allow for a week's occupation of those provinces (I kinda wish they did, but oh well...).

Otherwise:

event = {
id = 1000000
random = no
country= TUR
trigger = {
control = { province = 1006 data = GRE }
control = { province = 971 data = GRE }
control = { province = 970 data = GRE }
}
name = "Blah"
desc = "blah"
date = { day = 1 month = january year = 1835 } #You specified no date
offset = 30
deathdate = { day = 1 month = december year = 1920 }
action_a = {
name = "Byzantine splendor or whatever"
command = { type = peace which = GRE when = 0 }
command = { type = capital which = 1034 }
command = { type = secedestate which = GRE value = 971 when = 0 }
command = { type = secedestate which = GRE value = 1006 when = 0 }
command = { type = trigger which = 1000001 }
}
}

event = {
id = 1000001
random = no
country = GRE
name = "Yada"
desc = "yada"
action_a = {
name = "This is for 1453, jerks!"
command = { type = capital which = 971 }
}
}

You may want to include a desperation and/or war exhaustion trigger for Turkey, too; i.e.:

desperation = { country = TUR value = 20 }#See below
war_exhaustion = { country = TUR value = 2 }

I'm convinced at this point both "data" and "value" work for desperation, but if it doesn't, interchange "data" for "value" in the desperation code.

Ain't I just a peach?

Yes, even today, Greeks would absolutely love to have their capital in Constantinople instead of Athens. Many Greeks still regard it as their rightful capital.

Ideologue: Thanks, but where should I put those texts? Yes I am a total modding noob :wacko: :confused:

I'd cut and paste it at the top of greece.txt, which is in the Victoria events folder, which is in the folder marked "db." Theoretically, you could put it in any event text file, however; so there's no real need to put the Greek one in greece.txt and the Turkish one in ottoman.txt. (I wish they'd put multinational event chains in one text file per chain, it'd be less troublesome to mod, but no worries.) If it doesn't work, it's probably as a result of me missing a "{" or "}", but it seems like they're all there. I'm still waiting for someone to come up with an event parser for Victoria like that guy did for EU2... that beautiful device saved me about ten hours' work on my United Habsburg Empire scenario, and a Victoria version would've saved me three or four on my Austria 1848 events.

There is a Victory Event Builder here.

Hmm your event doesn't seem to be working Ideologue. I don't know where I should put the "or" so could you do that for me please? BTW I put the texts in greek event folder.

I couldn't really figure out the event builder btw :wacko:

Really? It suprises me quite a lot. I thought, the Greeks love their current capital. I have never heard they would prefer Constantinople. Why the city is so important? As far as I know it never was their capital in the past, was it?

Ofcourse it has been their capital. Many Greeks in the new Greek nation which formed in the 19th century still regarded themselves as "Romans". Even the Turks called them Romans. Thus Greece was actually regarded as Byzantium reborn, and Constantinople was it's rightful capital (Greece was called Greece because they needed foreign help. Rome would have been first choice but because the west still despised the Byzantine nation, they wouldn't accept this new "Roman empire").

They actually came very close to reclaiming their capital in the 1920's but then they were beaten back because Britain stopped financing the Greek war effort, and ofcourse because of Atttaturk who led the heroic defence.

After that, the Greeks expelled Turks living in their country and the Turks expelled Greeks out of their own. Thus Greek claims to Turkish territory weren't relevant anymore, and the idea of reconquest faded.

Today most Greeks see themselves as Greeks, but some of the older Greeks might still call themselves "Romaoi" or Romans...

Anyway, could somebody please tell me how I should make this event work?

The main reason may be I used the wrong year. Change "1835" (before the game even starts) to "1836." My mistake.

Other than that, it should work... if not, just post exactly (or close to exactly) what the dialog box says right before the scenario finishes loading. If there's no dialog box (i.e., the game loads fine), the problem is not within the syntax but the content, or you put it in the wrong file, or what have you.

I changed the date, but it still didn't work. The game seems to be starting up fine, so I guess it must be the content that isn't working properly.

BTW I put the file in the Greek event folder (but not in the VIP event folder (which I can't seem to find)).

..\Victoria\scenarios\VIPscen\events

That's where all the VIP stuff is. If the VIP scenario loads a different Greek event file than the vanilla GC, putting your event into the normal \db\events file won't help since the VIP doesn't use most of those files.

Karl Martell is correct. VIP has its own Greek event file. I made it actually. :D So, you will have to add your events to that file. :)

I placed the file in the VIP Greek event folder and it still doesn't work :(. Would somebody mind try testing the event on their own computer, maybe that will help?

You need to put it into one fo the files that the game loads. Each scenario has its own list of files which it oads up when you start, and if your event is in one of the files which aren't on the list it won't be loaded.

So you should either put it into the Greek VIP event file, or add your file to the list of events used:
..\Victoria\scenarios\VIPscen\events\events.txt

That is the main list. It refers to a bunch of files in the ..\Victoria\db\events folder as well as to the VIP files, but that is only because the VIP hasn't made events for ALL nations, and thus uses many of the old Paradox events as well.
