Due to some extreme stupidity on my part, I'd managed to screw up my ricky installation. However, I was able to restore it. the problem is that the folder is much more bare than I remember it. and also, as the title indicates, the settings program is gone. could someone please help.

P.S: Heres a screen of the folder as it is right now. http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/9602/vickyscreenjp0.jpg. Is there anything else missing?

Thanks alot.

I don't think that's an option though. When I say screwed up I mean really screwed up. If anyone could upload the .dll's in a zip or something that'd be great, but I already started a game to test it, and other than the resolution it worked fine. (Also, It has the default Victoria loading screen, but the revolutions start screen)

My main problem, in case anyone else has it or could help me, is that whenever I used the install option it would act as if I already had it installed when I didn't, and give me an option of repairing or uninstalling, both of which did nothing. I had to go digging through the recycle bin for each individual folder, since that's how I deleted them originally. It's a good thing I never clean my recycling bin.

It looks like in order to fully clean out your bad install, you'll need to edit the registry (be VERY careful, or you might end up damaging your OS and have to re-install Windows). After deleting all the Victoria file folders (and emptying the Recycle bin), go to 'Run' on your Start menu. Type 'regedit' and hit enter. Click on the '+' box next to 'Local Machine', and then again on the '+' box next to 'Software'. Then locate the Victoria folder (if you're in North America and bought the game in a shop, it'll be under 'Strategy First', otherwise it'll be under 'Paradox Entertainment' or 'Paradox Interactive') by clicking on the '+' box next to 'Strategy First' (or one of the other folders I listed). Once you locate the 'Victoria' folder in the registry, left-click on it to highlight it, then right-click on the folder and select 'Delete' from the options. Just be VERY CAREFUL that it's ONLY the 'Victoria' folder you're deleting.

After editing the registry, re-boot your system and then proceed as normal with installing the game. Shouldn't be any problems after this (as long as you are VERY CAREFUL!)

Read carefully and apply it even more carefully. Messing with the registry is not for the faint of heart, however distributing game .dll's is not kosher either. I'm sure you understand. :cool:

You only need to do all this stuff if you are unable to reinstall Victoria, however. I would try to reinstall back to the same directory first. If that fails, then manually uninstall as listed.

As noted, this information is for older Windows versions. The registry information should remain the same, but the uninstall information may be different. How different, I'm not really sure.

Good luck.

Manually Removing Victoria from the Registry

This info applies to Windows 9x or ME. It hasn't been verified with Windows 2000 or Windows XP but it should be the same. Just be careful and remember to do a backup before editing the registry (Registry menu, Export registry file, name it backup_ddmmyy.reg, check the box "ALL" in Export range. If you delete something by accident, all you have to do is to double-click on the file to restore you registry to its previous state.

There appears to be a lot of Brothers, Sisters, Friends etc going around uninstalling Victoria incorrectly!
If this is done then it is difficult to reinstall the game as "bits" are left everywhere and the Game Installation is fooled into thinking that the game is still installed.
If this has happened to you then try this:-

You have to manually delete a key in your registry. You do that by starting regedit (Start => Run => regedit => Enter) and navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Paradox Entertainment" and delete the Victoria key. It looks like a folder in regedit.(If you have applied more than one Patch then there might be more than one key).
If you are nervous about editing the Registry then get someone to do it for you. However if you only delete the above key(s) no harm will be done.

EDIT: Note: If you have the Strategy First version, you may have to substitute "Strategy First" for "Paradox Entertainment" both in the above registry path and below in the path to the files.

Also delete the directory C:\Program Files\Paradox Entertainment\Victoria.
EDIT: or if you did not use the default directory, then what ever directory you installed the game to.

Note: This part has proven to be unnecessary with the latest patches, but I left it there, just in case.
You also have to delete some installation files.

InstallShield creates a directory where it keeps all the information on installed software. On my machine it is 'C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information'

'InstallShield Installation Information' is marked as hidden so to be able to find it you have to change folder options on you PC to show hidden files. Search for files containing 'Victoria' in this directory and you will find a file called 'setup.ini' with the following content:

[Startup]
AppName=Victoria
Engine=0
Copy=1
Source=0
[Languages]
Default=0x0009
count=1
key0=0x0009

On my PC this resides in: 'C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{A6F1BDF7-53A7-4AF6-84B9-0C51C722BC91}'. I'm not sure if the last directory name will be the same on all machines but I think so. Delete that directory and you will be able to make a clean install.

Follow Up Revolutions Edit: If original Victoria is the North American Strategy First distribution, then two registry entries under Strategy First and Victoria: Revolutions may exist. The Revolutions entry will be under Paradox Entertainment/Interactive.
