Well from what I can see prvinces are named ok, and I understand them in every weay, of cource graphics are a bit plain but look at EUII just exactly the same really, the tiles change with seasons yea, and have a few thigns on them but apart fdor that thier still plain, same principal here, this is as a WWII game not a colourful mpa as they had in EUII days, dont forget the game is also a theam, in WWII they had simplistics maps lke this or what ever ells they could use, aggreed these province templates of greay look some what dull but you guys seent eh green bits thats probably colour comign in teh game thier who knows...

As for Unites they look great to what I see practicly no diffrant then in EUII as for chezch tiger hee, think about thier not going to give each country in teh game thier own specific unites, msot countrys will have same unites that are seen in that reagion I dare say Japan and chiana have same unites and other thigns, but have maybe 1-2 diffrant speciel unites.. like in EUII you get diffrant looking unites at the 18 century for Austria and Prussia and england dont you same could go here...

Cristisiam is great for people I do it to but to critisies things to early is a big thing, give them timethey done a great job so far so lets keep our heads up in good spirits about this game and not critisise it to much... as explained Work still in PROGRESS!! plus any game compy release game screen shots and not for the critisizam but for the gamers to see whats cpomign their way and were they are in development, and to gte some feedback here and thier on things, but they dont release it for jsut critasizam about it..I think poeple are expecting to much right now of this game and thye shouldnt or should, its up to them but its no very nice is it.. belive me I can be very critisizing when I want and I am a hardcore or what ever you call in stratagy game player, but its almost the same as EUII in graphic respeacts, what we should be happy for is for them to make a working game and dose not crash like EUII or has that many bugs in it, which I think is the msot important thing and that MP aspect is clearly highly stable to play with and not crash every 10-20 mins or more..

thats my biggest hope...

Holy Moley! You have the worst typing I have seen! :( Man, my head still hurts from the linguistic puzzle you offered us. Were you writing it while trying to cath a bus, thus the rash typing? you have good points, but the presentation is ...

EDIT: :confused:maybe its your keyboard, so please ignore the harsh words ...

Beauty is obviously in the eye of the beholder: I'd be happy with the map and graphics as shown on these screenshots.

I like the map to be clear and uncluttered: if you want fancy graphics for their own sake then this is the wrong sort of game!

These sort of graphics were acceptable 8-10 years ago when there wasnt the the technology in hardware or software to cope with them,. These days we get the rolling sceneries of Sudden Strike and Cossacks or the details that came with TOAW(and that game is dated now).
Surely it wouldnt be beyond the reach to put some colour into the game.
Edit: this would be like watching B&W TV is ok for a while but I doubt Id last the long run,no matter good it plays.

Steve.

My God, I DON'T want "fancy graphics", but simply tasteful artwork. I don't want games to needlessly get ever more demanding and taxing on computers. I am simply saying that these graphics are poor and do not even get close to matching EU1/2.

It is frustrating that these concerns are equalled with the justified criticism of pointless whining about superfluous eyecandy, by people not appreciating serious strategy gaming. Gameplay is (nearly) everything. I'll buy the worst looking game, if it has the gameplay and strategic depth of EU (and hopefully better). But anyone enjoys tasteful artwork. This needn't be high-end technology. There are many oldies that sport better graphics than recent technologically-demanding 3D environment games.

Just take these concerns seriously and accept my/our view that these graphics are tasteless and ugly. The game doesn't have to be grey-in-grey to portray WWII. Brighten it up a la World in Flames Final Edition (very nicely designed WWII boardgame).

I'd much rather have the unit graphics that I see in the screenshots replaced with standardized military symbology.

I was very much hoping for a divisional level game, as well. I do not think we are going to get that, based on the map scale and the appearance of the unitts.

Speaking for myself, I play computer games NOT because of the graphics (many boardgames have truly excellent graphics, btw), but because of the AI, strategic depth without having to read and learn 100+ pages (in some cases) of rules, having it all neatly stacked in my computer, not scattered across the room, ability to play whenever I feel like it, etc.

Also, I do NOT spend thousands of Euros to upgrade my computer and appreciate it if also newer games run on my not too old laptop. Requirements are often needlessly high, due to graphics. I don't want EU (or HOI) to look like Sudden Strike (or whatever), but simply provide a fitting and atmospheric environment. EU1/2 were absolutely satisfactory in that regard, but HOI looks like a grey mouse and I don't like the direction it is heading towards.

How about a switch? Some games provide both depictions? It'd be nice to see the NATO symbols once in a while, while normally looking at the ordinary unit artwork a la EU.

Ok, as currently noone from Paradox is available due to vacations, without infringing my NDA, I can at least say this:

1) The screens are from the alpha version.
2) Despite the units, they only show the economical map (someone already noticed this from the icons for iron, manpower etc).
3) The die is not "cast", except with regards to that the map will not use satellite graphics, but rather stay in the EU tradition.
4) The map is still not finalized, the graphics will improve and supersede those of EU2, and there will be more and nicer mapmodes than just the one you saw on the screenies.

Game looks fine. Interface looks fine. Paradox could give it a Makeover, but it would probably be a waste of time.

This is a fully correct description.

A) Sometimes a company MUST give screenshots in a Very Early Phase of Development.
B) The Content of This Thread is exactly the reason why we (at Paradox) as stringently as possible try not to publish screenshots too early. However at this case it was needed.

Summae: You have not seen the final graphics yet....:D

declaring war

"Democratic nations cannot go on offensive wars without positive popular opinion at home or a parliament fully in favor of it. This will make the USA a fun nation to play, as you can't go into war until you are attacked or the public opinion is in favor of it, and the opinion for war is primarily increased by Axis or Comintern success. "

I am very happy to hear this. I was concerned how this enormously important factor will be simulated in HoI.

I hope that all democratic nations are involved under this ruel, not only the USA. Just imagine that France declaring war on Germany in 1936 when the Wehrmacht consist of merely 36 divisions.

historical figures

"you'll be able to command thousands of historical figures from heads of state to minor functionaries and military officers."

I hope that all the personalities will be checked thoroughly. A deep checking of their abilities will affect the gameplay seriously.

The checking could be eventually tweaked by the historical successes/defeats of the country's military, diplomatic and economic achivement.
