Or maybe they released it to have some feedback. So fire away! I like the map. I also like the font used for the provinces. The color scheme is bleak, however. As for the jaggies, I'm sure they will get rid of them in due time. I don't know about the units. They are nice, but they could be bigger. But if they do get bigger, I suspect that the provinces will also have to get bigger.

Like in EU, there will be again different zoom levels and also different kinds of mapmodes. What you see on the screenies is *not* the political mapmode which will again feel like poring over a nice historical atlas.

Sorry for only divulging trivialities, but ...

Does it mean that you are one of the HOI Betazoid ? And if so, how harsh is the Paradox NDA ?

in regards to the NDA: very restricting or so i am told.

in regard to the screenies: yes they are ugly... but gameplay is everything :p there is not a really visible front line i guess i will be dragging and dropping units on top of one another :)

hahah a board is for giving opinions right? do all opinions have to kiss ass and just praise the game? what we are doing is called "constructive criticism". by talking the graphics down it will cause them to improve them... faster...

Surely these screens must show the "economic" map-mode, most certainly there will be a geographical mode where one can see the features like swamps, mountains etc.

Nice to see that they have simulated the "Sudetenland" (Budweiss, Karlsbad) :)

They said divisional levels about this game....from the screens it seems you will only be able to move armies, not separate divisions.....and only one army per province? Well it is after all a "Grand strategy" game so we couldnt have asked for more...

I am now confused as to the difference between Bremenhaven and Bremerhaven.

I like the resources and industrial sites shown on the map, but cannot figure out what the green and the grey areas represent. In one screenshot, the green is around Berlin... in another, it has moved to the area around Stuttgart.

Furthermore the provinces if we may call them that, are named after their leading city, but when looking at the screen with the convoy assignments, it says Stralsund-Elbing. If my geographical knowledge isnt letting me down, Stralsund is in, ackording to the screenshot, "Rostock" province. Does this mean we will have more than one city in each province?

Ok, to the people who say it's ugly, IT'S BETA...k?
And as was said at the begining, it's a work in PROGRESS!!!

Anyway, I think it looks good now. As others have said, it's all about gameplay, and even from the screenshots, one can see the game will have a lot of depth to it.
I also like the option of promoting your Generals. Question, can you also demote them or "fire" them.

I noticed all the resources up top, Oil, iron, I am guessing the third was rubber and the 4th I am guessing coal.

I am really looking forward to this game, it looks very promissing,t hank you Paradox.

The NDA is very strict. That's why I actually never say anything about HoI which wasn't either explicitly written somewhere else already, or is trivially implied by the available info. :)

but what are the 3 next ones, manpower, something? and factories.. a limit on how many factories?

Well, consumer goods were mentioned as a reason for unrest (that is if people dont get em), is this related to factories maybe, ie first score how many you have, 2nd one how many produce civil goods?

But second one (between factories & manpower?) baffle me.

I am fully aware that HOI is still in production and a couple of things are bound to change, but the die is essentially cast. The end product will most likelyl look quite similar to what we see. There won't be a radical revolution.

If criticism can prevent Paradox from releasing an ugly game (or make it slightly less ugly), then criticism must be voiced. I don't understand why some consider this "whining" and say that one should better not criticize at all, so that developers also release screenshots as early in future.

I ask you: What's the point of releasing early screenshots, if it's not about receiving early feedback? And I can't help it that the game looks plain ugly (I wish it weren't and I needn't criticize).

The real problem is that some here are too uncritical and too readily praise the graphics. Ask anyone, who isn't a hardcore fan and forum member and you're bound to hear a different answer.

Don't get me wrong. I do not want superfluous eyecandy. I just want an appropriate and tasteful design. Right now, HOI misses that mark by miles. And yes, gameplay is everything (hey, I'm a boardgamer, so don't lecture me :) ), but if we're debating screenshots, the graphics issue cannot and should not be ignored.

I agree with everything you said here, 100%.

And of course, even if the graphics aren't improved, it won't make me stop buying the game. ;)

And I in turn agree 100%. I will buy the game whatever is done with the graphics, but ugly they are. I don't quite understand how people can like them. Presumably anything would do for that group of highly uncritical individuals.

i for one somewhat like the font of the province names. and im sure the GFX will improve (and they should)

im more interested in the political model. i finally get to sack chamberlain (w/ all this detail) or try to save czechoslovakia from munich '38. ..or maybe meet the german army face-to-face somewhere in sudeten.

paradox, in the name of all history buffs out there - thank you. :D

Well firstly that map looks terrible!!! We play computer games to get away from the board game look.We spend $1000s on video cards over time not to look at that rubbish.
But i do believe that this is very early Beta and i expect the map to improve immenslely as there are most likely concentrating on game play and getting the engine to function correctly before the hit the eye candy.
2ndly the 1 concern I do have is the different units, I see 4 types of infantry with only 3 different icons, ie the Germans and the Russians have there own infie icon but the US and Brit troop look exactly the same! and is that a Czech Tiger I see?
I do like the look of the pop ups of the infantry Unit and the the Leader List looks fantastic.. umm Why has Guderian got 0 xp,, no wonder the allies are at Berlin in 42.
Supplies look like been a real challenge , keeping your units in Supply in this game looks to be vital to your success.I like that alot.
In conclusion looks like a fun game, but release it next year if only to get that Lousy map right
;)

I have to say that the people playing hardcore strtegies like those Paradox creates,do not usually pay much attention to extremely high tech graphics...
But i also have to say that the map we saw is much less appealing than the political maps used in EUII.Maybe a better template will be added until the game is released.
