Great screenshots :) Can't wait to see all the features and technology development

But unfortenately I have to be the irritating prat who says it out loud:

Now that the first screenies are out surely paradox has honoured the exclusive agreement and can start publishing screenies ?

Had to ask :D

The game map looks good. I am sure that it will even look better in the end game.

I am very happy to see that the Leaders have pictures. That is a very nice touch.

My one concern is that I did not see a unit window. I saw a list of general info on the side, # of tanks and men in units, but no info on the make up of what that is, experience, types of tanks, heavy artillery etc....

I think its great that they have 700 techs, but I hope they take the same time to catalog some of the Historical equipment and link it to a tech tree that would allow the person to develop them within the context of the game. Still hope they do not white wash the game with generic units.

Well, the graphics are not very nice but I don't care that much... what I expect is that you can:
- zoom out at the maximum (see the whole world at one glance)
- check the 'political map' - that's the funniest part, when you've conquered half the world

Like in EU, there will be again different zoom levels and also different kinds of mapmodes. What you see on the screenies is *not* the political mapmode which will again feel like poring over a nice historical atlas.

Sorry for only divulging trivialities, but ...

Awesome. And just maybe it's more impressive than it sounds.:D

Oh I am very impressed! :D Paradox just keeps outdoing themselves. I remember when I first heard about EU1, I thought that that game would be what I had been waiting for for years. The more I hear about HOI, the more I get that same feeling. A grand strategic game on the Second World War, done Paradox style.

Shots? What shots? I don't remember seeing screen shots, nor men in black. What are you talking about? Who are you anyway? What am I doing here? What have you done to me?

Well, these screen shots are absoloute class!!!!!

Some of you seem a little disapointed with them, but they are just shots of one form of map (perhaps industrial?).

I know there will be other map modes where you can see terrain and cities. I am also looking forward to the tactical battle mapping.

It looks as though Paradox have got it spot on again.

Once this game is released, I think I will probably lose my job and girlfriend if it anything like as addictive as EU.

Think about this scenario. It's 1:00am, after months of warfare, me and my Panzer divisions have arrived at the gates of Moscow.
Stalin is battered and bloody on the ropes and one final push will see the collapse of the Ivans.
The word arrives from Hitler back in Berlin to immediately commence the assault on Moscow when my girlfriend comes in all frisky and wanting certain pleasures.
WHAT SHOULD I DO!?!?!?!?

I have never felt such anticipation for the arrival of a new game - EVER!!

lol. Well it has to be Moscow, right? No one except Poland <ahem><ahem>, has taken the capital and managed to hold it. I'm sure your girlfriend would understand. If not, just get another one.

Ahh! the opinion of a battle hardend war gamer!

But Alas! I have the answer!, I could always save the game???

But then I would risk coming back to the game only to find out that it didnt save properly and I have to march the vast Russian plains once more.

Back to square one!:D

Some thoughts and feelings on these screenshots.

The units look excellent. Very alive-looking, and realistic. They could be a bit bigger, but that's a small complaint. The convoy, leader and army ideas look pretty cool and exciting. But the map itself is to put this frankly, very plain. It looks WW2-ish, but it also looks mechanical, as if it were a sheet of paper and not a graphical representation of the world. Current areas controled, marked in red lines would spice up the map, as would more graphics of cities and factories. The EU map looks great because it looks at least somewhat alive, with its vibrant colors. This one is kind of... dead. The rivers are also kinda huge in relation to the provinces.

The whole critique aside, I still say that gameplay makes a game, not graphics, but it still seems like a step back from EU.

Sorry, I hate saying so, but the screenshots are plain ugly. A step backwards from EU, IMO. I would have liked the map to be based on sattelite footage as in the case of Pax Romana, or otherwise allow for a better geographical atmosphere. These rivers look like lightning bolts! Staccatolike.

And the font used seems more fitting for a scifi game, than a WWII game. A type-machine font would have fitted much better!

And sorry, for all the love of Paradox, there was no need to pay Will Smith a tribute for MIB. Those "Spies" (they must be) look awful! But then, I shall not further criticize the units, as they are bound to change. However, I greatly dislike the general atmosphere. I would have much preferred the look of WIF Final edition, with fields and pasture, woods, mountain, swamps, looking very appropriate: "and that's a boardgame!"

Of course, I lastly add the wargamer's mantra: "Gameplay is everything!" But come on, we all also enjoy a good looking game (without needless and bothering eyecandy such as a chirping bird etc). I hope that Paradox will make CK to look somewhat more like Pax, which is bright, friendly and tasteful. (Okay, a WWII needn't be friendly looking and can have sombre tones, but you get my point?)

BTW, I hope the "front" will be marked in red on the map.

I have to agree with you on this. But of course, I will still buy the game, despite this minor issue.... :)

For most of the critique, that's exactly why I posted at the beginning of this thead that the screenshots are from an early stage of the beta. And btw I for one can't stand sattelite footage maps . ..

Hmm, the game just started Beta, there's still 3-6 months until release (3 by the dates quoted by retailers, 6 by gaming reality), and Paradox has shown they're not unable to make a decent looking game.

Hey! Maybe this is just temporary art to allow the betas something to work with? It's comments like the above that make developers very reluctant to release such early screenshots.

Eh? I was under the impression, and I could of course be wrong, that there would not BE any tactical battles. Simply the scheduling in the strategic moves to make sure your army all arrive simultaneously, but I didn't expect any tactical combat at all.

As to the 'map modes', I tend to think that is currently the main map, while they work on the real art.
