No, the RAF was not on the verge of collapsing. Sure, it wasnt in the best of health but it deffinetly wasnt on its last legs. The UK was making more planes than Germany, had better planes, had RADAR and other early warning systems, had airbases Germany just couldnt reach and was fighting over homesoil so could pick up any pilots who were shot down but not killed.
