Is the appearence of CoT's purely random or as a player can you control or have influence over when and where they appear?

There are lots of factors influencing it but in the end it's quite random between a good set of candidates.

Hmm, the Dutch always seem to get the CoT if they are in an area...

Some CoTs appear from events like the one in Thrace for example.

The European ones are scripted (if u don't mess with the files too much).

Some places are much more likely to get a COT than others (i.e. Table), but in the end its random and the player has almost no control over where it will appear.

There are different regions - for instance the Pacific American coast. One usually pops up there - while another covers Australia (very low value - but it always pops up)

Not always. Only seen the Australian CoT in about 1/4th of my GCs. (Which sucks, since I usually sail halfway across the world and waste an explorer or two colonising the damned place...)

You have to play it right and waste many more than that in my expierence.

Heh, how could I play it any differently? Discover all of Australia, colonise all of Australia, and.. nothing.
