I've played for many years EU and got some months ago EU 2. In my opinion it's the best war game ever created. I'm not a rookie at this game, but I never got deeply involved with the mechanics of the game.

Related to a CoT I've noticed that if you own one, beside the trading income from that CoT the province gets a trading income (or something like that) from foreign merchants. This income can get quite big.
So what I think is this:
- in a CoT that I don't own I try to get a monopoly and compete the other merchants out thus having the highest income from that CoT;
- in a CoT that I own I get a monopoly but I don't compete the foreign merchants out, because of what I wrote above.

Can anyone tell me if this is a good thing or a bad one?

Generally it sounds like a good thing. In the current version, CoTs are liable to closing down if there is no competition there (i.e. if you manage to totally monopolise all trade there). This way you can maximise income from foreign CoTs (and possibly get them shut down eventually), as well as sustaining your own CoTs with a reasonable level of income...

So, there is the risk of a CoT to be closed, if someone has a monopoly and competes all other merchants out? I didn't know that. Is it possible?

I thought that a CoT can be closed down if the sum of all the provices contributions to that CoT gets low.

He, that explain why continously CoT's are closing. I am playing Norway (converted from CK), and I am the only one colonising.
Is this something that will stay in the game? It is rather strange to see a CoT closing and then opening it a few provinces away.

If all the slots in the CoT are filled, nothing bad happens to the CoT, unless too few nations are using it. If there are empty slots, then there is an increasing score that results eventually in the removal of the CoT.
