You Guys sometimes talk about certain provinces, which a more prone to get a Colonial CoT. Is there one in North America? Especially now, where the one in Manhattan has been removed in the newest patch!

Thanks
Xan

I read that CoTs favor rich provinces with manufactories and promotions that belong to nations with a high trade efficiency. This appears to be the case in East Asia. Doesn't matter what island the Dutch settle, the CoT goes to them.

Normally I see the new CoT in Zacatecas, however this is not NA... :)
I've seen one in Sacramento, Nehalem (hope I spell it correctly), Bayou, but never in Manhattan since I upgraded.

I can't agree. I several times got the CoT in a province, which didn't even had a city, just a colony. An Australian CoT is a typical example.

It is not a typical example because you don't compet with the AI for a CoT in Australia. The AI is never in Australia.

Of course there are other factors involved, but as Spain in California, the CoT always goes to England (protestant efficiency bonus?), regardless of provinces owned, and as any catholic in the spice islands of East Asia, the CoT always goes to the Dutch (reformed efficiency bonus?) regardless of islands owned. This is a general tendency, not a fixed rule, because there are other factors involved.

Um, just to be correct, Zacatecas IS in North America. Even if you don't count "Central" America as "North" America, all of Mexico is still North America. :D

Certainly there are exemptions, but in general I agree: protestants/reformed tend to be more competitive. However, this might be also the consequence, that AI catholics normally lag behind in colonisation. On other hand, if i.e. Enland stays catholic, they may still get that CoT in Sacramento.

Usually, but not "never". In one game, playing as Portugal, I think, I began colonizing Australia. The English suddenly appeared in Macquarie (Tasmania),
and THEY got the COT.

In my recent game as Hungary(!!) I got a CoT in Matagorda!!! I probably don't have to say, that I was full Land, catholic and was just number 6 in terms of number of provinces in the area. When the CoT appeared, Matagorda was just a level 2 colony. Not far away I had even 2 colonial cities, but the AI didn't choose them.

My explanation is, that I got the CoT because I was light years ahead in trade tech. I think this is the factor which matters the most. The reason, why the AI prefers protestant/reformed nations in this relarion is, that they are normally sharply ahead in trade tech compared to AI catholics. Nonetheless, I still can't find a good reason why it appears in a level 2 colony, whilst there are several colonial cities in the neighbourhood.

But what about Eastern North America. Is there a specific province, where alot of you guys have experienced a CoT?
And then again I don't understand about Zacatecas: In all the games I have played Zacatecas is the same province as Tenochtitlan (Is that a bug/programming mistake?), and therefore do they start with a CoT!

So we seem to be reaching an agreement. Trade efficiency appears to be a very important factor, while development of the province appears to be irrelevant.

I would agree with that wholeheartedly. I've gotten a COT as Poland in Catawba (sp?) as a level 2 colony, but was one level ahead of most in trade.

As a french colonizer with most of Canada under control, I got a CoT for nearly all of NA in a native-infested, LVL 1 Colony that was reduced to a mere 10 persons a month later! In Yukon!

It was quite annoying, as it took nearly all my trade value in Ile de France away.

I wouldn't call it annoying, since in your NA CoT, you'll barely have any competition, while you would have heavy competition in Ile-de-France's CoT. So, assuming 5 merchants (a monopoly is costly to maintain) in I-d-F, you'd have 25% of that trade, while 6 merchants in NA will give you 100% of the tradevalue if nobody else trades in your CoT (which is fully probable if noone else knows the map of the province). ;)
