Hello forum!

I come here today because I've had these doubts for a while and since i cant find proper help anywhere else, i think its time to ask the forum for some help. I'm currently playing ck2 on a 22 inch FullHD monitor at 1600:900 resolution using 60 as ingame refresh rate. My monitor is FullHD (native support for 1920:1080), but if i set my game resolution for FullHD, not only it gets limited to 30hz on refresh rate, but also the game looks slightly more laggy, so i prefer losing some visual quality and go down a notch and play on 1600:900 @60fps.

I've played ck2 on windowed mode on custom 16:9 resolutions like 1712:963 and the game performance was good, but when i try to run ck2 on fullscreen mode using a custom resolution, it either gets black borders, or the game changes itself to 1920:1080 automatically, or it crashes to desktop. Also it goes back to 30hz refresh rate which is kinda annoying.

So my question is, is it possible to play the game using fullscreen mode using custom resolutions? Right now it only seems to work with the optional resolutions like 1366:768, 1600:900, 1920:1080 etc, and that is a shame, since i would like to find the best optimal resolution for my pc performance wise.

Also, can the game be played at 1920:1080 using 60fps? In options it seems limited to 30 at this resolution.

Keep in mind that there are many true 16:9 resolutions as u can see on the link below, and since the ratio is the same, the game should allow those resolutions to be playable.

Thanks in advance to all of you.
Kind regards!

You could try setting the refresh rate in the settings.txt file in the /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings II/ folder...
Or check what its set at.
Setting it to 0 should allow for unlimited refresh rate.

Actually 0 is not recommended, I'm not aware that it means "unlimited" at all in this game. In documents/paradox/ck2/logs/system.log there's a list of viable resolutions/refresh rates at the end. You should be able to choose any one that supports 60hz there.

As for custom resolutions, I guess we'vre never really looked into those. Do you have vertical sync Vsync set in your video driver settings?

It gets put in as a placeholder , but I've never been able to find out why it does or does not happen in any particular case. 60 should basically always work, except for TVs that can only run up to 30.
