Cost of HOI4 compared to Stellaris

For the massive price (Colonel Edition, as those "cosmetics" are an integral part of the game), HOI4 better blow my socks off and be a flawless diamond at release. I thought you had come to your senses as the Nova Edition was more than a fair price, and the most expensive Stellaris edition is the same as the HOI4 Colonel Edition.

*EDIT: I just saw that it is much cheaper on Steam in NOK (on Paradox store it was in Euro). 2/3 the price, actually. The price there is more along the line of Stellaris. Trying to cancel my purchase on Paradox store now.

NB: I like Stellaris. When they sort things out a bit and add a bit more, it will be stellar (pun intended).

Agreed. And Srellaris was sadly somwhat disapointing. I'm hoping it'll come right in time, but right now I'm suffering a little buyers remorse.

There's always bugs in games this complex with so many variables, but they'll be sorted out. I love eu4, and basically assume hoi4 will be great due to the similar mechanics of eu4.

I haven't tried it yet, but hearing about all the late game lag has really made me want to wait for a steam sale, and after they have time to get out a few major patches.

Maybe not. The game I'm playing has little to engage in the late game, has major performance issues with large empires, is pretty bug ridden and is beset by unnbalanced broken gameplay. It's got the weakest diplomacy options of any PDS game I've ever played, and has very few "events" poping up.

I just hope HOI4 is in a better state.

To be fair, you get more for you money with the Field Marshal edition than you get with the galaxy edition for Stellaris. The pack only costs 90€ (or your equivalent) because it includes a expansion pass for the first 2 expansions and its related content. The Colonel Edition basicly is identical otherwise except with the forum icons, the portraits and the digital artbook.

This isn't true - you can go to the Paradox store now and see the most expensive Stellaris edition was $70, and the Colonel edition $50. There is a $20 gap between the most extensive Stellaris and most expensive HoI4, but the most expensive HoI4 has two expansion packs bundled into it, so contains a good deal more content.

Note - the Colonel editions price isn't 'massive' by any stretch of the imagination (and has never been). Many large strategy games release for that price without bundled in extras (and then you pay more for extras on top of that). Look at Civilization prices at launch, or War in the East, or a bunch of others - the pricing of the game is fairly standard and, if anything, on the lower side of games of this scale in the industry. Of course, you're well within your rights to decide its too much for you personally, but to claim it's massively expensive is incorrect in the context of Paradox games historically, strategy games or PC gaming more generally.
