Just read it all in one fell swoop . . . love it, and I am not a lover of WC AARs. I like the self-imposed limit on badboy, and I like the strategy deployed versus Britain. I found myself hoping early on that Scotland would rock out and you'd be a great ally of theirs. . . oh well!

Carry on!

Scotland would have been a nice 'ally', if only they hadn't gone Great Britain on me. I could not tolerate other CotNW nations. :)

The re-formed Scotland still thrives - I've had no quarrels with them, so far.

...as for the threshold, uhm... Well, I've never been too good at math, unfortunately. Darn fractions.

Part 54 - Bad Math

EU3_145.jpg
As the years pass, our BadBoy level drops enough to allow some conflict. Time to secure a solid foothold in India.

EU3_146.jpg
Rajputana is certainly the heavyweight here, but they are fortunately far behind in tech.

EU3_147.jpg
Khandesh, our primary target, offers an acceptable peace.

EU3_148.jpg
Dadra is one of two provinces that ensures this pleasant modifier.

EU3_151.jpg
We max our Centralization again, and stability drops.

EU3_153.jpg
Hinterpommern becomes French core.

EU3_154.jpg
As does Avignon.

EU3_155.jpg
We secure the Center of Trade in Kutch, and much of the coastline.

EU3_157.jpg
With our core on Kalisz about to expire, we pick a fight with Poland.

EU3_158.jpg
That impossible-to-spell-correctly Indian nation is reduced to a One Province Minor.

EU3_159.jpg
Meissen leads the alliance, thanks to their Personal Union with Poland. This... must be taken advantage of. Selective assaults begin. :)

EU3_160.jpg
We charge Meissen, our core in Kalisz, and Poland's two Centers of Trade - and ask Meissen to give up the most valuable Polish lands. However, we slightly miscalculate BadBoy numbers...

EU3_161.jpg
...which has a disastrous result. We cross the threshold. This has immediate effects.

EU3_162.jpg
Friesland attacks, alone.

EU3_164.jpg
Ceylon wants their province back.

EU3_165.jpg
The Swiss warns us.

EU3_166.jpg
The Austrians taunt us to bring our relations below +100.

EU3_167.jpg
Syria sends a blustering ambassador.

EU3_168.jpg
So does Holland...

EU3_169.jpg
...and Castille...

EU3_170.jpg
...and Yemen.

I can but apologize for messing up on fractions. Crossing the threshold was not intentional, I swear. If nothing else, this does force me to shed a fair amount of BadBoy, and cut back on all aggressive actions for a good while... but will the AIs let that happen?

It'll take less than a year to rectify the situation, and the two wars that started are easy to stalemate. The warnings, however, are a wee bit trickier to get around.

The warnings are good for twenty years (I think) - so let your BB drop a long way then reap the rewards.

You've having better luck than me with the boundary disputes - I've only had two by 1488.

What's the plan with the vassals?

You've having better luck than me with the boundary disputes - I've only had two by 1488.

What's the plan with the vassals?
I did plan to shed BadBoy points... to an extent. Had to conclude the wars I aleady had going before they WhitePeaced. Only after 1650 do I plan a fairly long time of inaction.

Boundary disputes are dependent on long-term stable borders, and a ruler with a high diplomacy rating. I note I get them a lot more frequently as the game progresses - in part because the 5000-month MTTH actually has time to conclude, and in part because I have Diplomacy 8 or 9 rulers (which effectively doubles or quadruples the speed of the event).

The only thing that speeds it up in pre-Republic eras, would be that the neighbor is a rival... I got rid of those early. :)

The plan for the vassals is mass diploannexation attempts, once my BadBoy rating lowers enough to bring at least five of them up to 'maybe' status.

Oh dear!

Btw, where are all the good diplomatic advisors?
Your motherland needs you!
They're hiding in other tech groups, I imagine. Whenever I check the ledger, I only find four diplomat advisors world-wide. I'm starting to wonder if this is a hard-coded cap, or something. If it is, no wonder I never get them. Still, I do feel I get more of them now than I have pre-Espionage, and can but hope that Cabinet will increase their frequency even more.

*Looks away* I didn't see anything, I swear! :D
Thanks. :)

Only Friesland and Ceylon had the guts... then again, my relations with most of Europe were still rather good at this stage.

Do remember I've played onward from this point, reaching 1650... so I can't really do that penance you suggest. However, now that I am at 1650, I do plan to stay peaceful for some two decades, insofar any remaining Guarantees I've given doesn't trigger. I will get that Anti-Piracy Act. Would that suffice? :)

Part 55 - Blessed Leadership

EU3_171.jpg
Friesland is put into vassalage for their foolhardiness. Waste not...

EU3_173.jpg
WHOHOO! Thank goodness the old one died - but how long will this new Stadtholder last?

EU3_176.jpg
For a time, we've pushed Government tech far ahead of schedule, at ridiculous expense. Now, we have a tentative ETA on Cabinet - although it will be sooner, since the cost will drop as we approach the 'allowed' date.

EU3_177.jpg
Vina... Viya...Vija... That impossible-to-get-right Indian country is overrun. French map-makers rejoice to see it gone.

EU3_178.jpg
Questions are raised over the recent peace settlement. We claim we should have gotten Ahmadnagar also. For some reason, our counterpart denies us. France maintains its claim.

EU3_179.jpg
The new Stadtholder makes short work of our bad reputation, giving us enough of a buffer to offer a peace.

EU3_180.jpg
Mysore is significantly reduced.

EU3_181.jpg
Six provinces, three BadBoy points. We still have some left of our limit, though... and we're feeling lucky.

EU3_182.jpg
We push for a peace with Rajputana also.

EU3_183.jpg
...definitely time to take it easy for a couple of years. :)

EU3_184.jpg
Missionaries are frustrated that we have yet to annex Mali entirely. Heathens cannot be allowed in French West Africa.

EU3_185.jpg
In an amazing feat, our super Stadtholder survives until his first re-election - and re-elected he certainly is. :)

EU3_187.jpg
French missionaries are complaining again, this time about Pagans.

EU3_188.jpg
And, of course, they're not too pleased that the Protestants of Bosnia are under Orthodox rule, either.

EU3_190.jpg
Just to top it all off, they also claim a Catholic province in friendly, Protestant Thuringia. The French court does not object this time either, core claims are always welcome.

FEEDBACK
Is there a punishment for breaking the limit?
Do you mean from the game, or something I should inflict on myself for crossing the threshold? :)

In game, one effect is that every single country in the game gets a free Casus Belli on you. They also get very antagonistic towards you - maintaining good relations with anyone fast becomes impossible as your BadBoy level rises. Nobody will ally with you, much less honor the alliance. Few would enter a Royal Marriage with you, vassals won't be diploannexed, countries won't become vassals peacefully...

So, yes, there are effects. Those declarations of war, insults and warnings all came within a week of crossing the threshold, and if I'd not had fair relations with most neighbors at the time or pacified them as vassals, I'd have gotten far more of them.

Of course, if you're big enough and don't care about peaceful diplomacy, you can embrace this, called 'BadBoy Wars'. You might never have to declare war on anyone again - but you'll never work down your reputation either. That's how I got 900+ BadBoy points in that first game as France I mentioned in post #1. :)

Woo, scary Himalaya face!
Yeah... but the Permanent Terra Incognita face is there forever... :)

you're quite high again , beware of Stadtholder deaths :D
Believe me, I live in that fear whenever I get a good Stadtholder... This time, things went well. :)

Beside everyone ganging up on you?

PS. What is Poland doing in Anhalt?
I think Poland diplannexed them without me even noticing. I can't recall any wars involving Anhalt. :)

Part 56 - Bavarian Bravery, Austrian Ambitions

EU3_192.jpg
Bavaria shows decisive leadership. They didn't dare make a move while powerful Baden was Emperor, but now that puny Austria is Emperor, the time time has clearly come to annex Ansbach.

EU3_193.jpg
Obviously, this can't hurt...

EU3_194.jpg
At least Bavaria managed this much.

EU3_195.jpg
Another day, another claim. :)

EU3_196.jpg
And another.

EU3_197.jpg
Bavaria is willing to consider that their move on Ansbach might not have been their best ever gambit.

EU3_199.jpg
About a decade ahead of time, and with a lot of money invested, we at last reach Government tech 30 - Cabinet is immediately established.

EU3_201.jpg
Austria mauls Bavaria, and revives Ansbach.

EU3_204.jpg
Since Pagans come BadBoy-free, we attack and annex the Shawnee, build forts and send missionaries.

EU3_205.jpg
Madrid should be French. Castille disagrees. France pushes the issue.

EU3_208.jpg
Austria, having annexed Transylvania, finds a new border to expand along. However, Serbia does not stand alone. Their master, the Ottoman Empire, intervenes. As does...

EU3_209.jpg
France.

Mind you, I had planned a skirmish with Austria two years down the line anyway, as our core on Mantua was about to expire. However, all our forces were not quite in place yet. A scramble ensues to muster defenders.

EU3_210.jpg
This makes things easier, since the Ottomans and Serbs aren't likely to be in this fight for long.

EU3_211.jpg
Of course, what this does not show, is that Austria is at least five levels in Land tech ahead of France at this point...
