I love Stellaris but haven't had a chance to play for awhile. Now that I have two weeks off, I loaded the game, bought all the DCL, and started an new empire. Yay!

But I noticed some changes (that happens in any Paradox game). So what happened to the three types of corvette hulls? I started my game and I only have the Interceptor hull. Is there a tech I need to unlock to get the others?

I love to design my own ships and I enjoyed having these choices.

You can still beat non-fallen AIs with corvette swarms. They just have to be bigger and better designed now.

Indeed.

Lately though, I have been using the Better Ship classes mod, which makes corvs somewhat redundant once you have frigates and destroyers, except as maniacal torpedo boats, but then the Strike Cruisers and Battlecruisers also have torp options.

Not completely redundant. I use the same mod (among others) and I often find corvettes to be the most survivable ships in my fleet, simply due to their evasion.

I once went up against a 2 million fleet power awakened FE in 1.32, with a million plus doom stack of my own, including literally dozens of super heavy capital ships. The only thing to survive (and ultimately win) the battle were the 300 or 400 hundred torpedo boat corvettes I brought along. All the expensive flagships, dreadnaughts, and battleships were wiped out by their titans' lasers fairly early on.

Sure they are not completely useless, they are immensly functional and they are the last ships to be targetted mostly.

Can't do conclusion on Limited number of controlled simulation, I think you need at least 1000 samples to make a definitive conclusion.

Though I did have a Battle in MP, where the two sides was basically this:

My side: 6 battleships, 30 Cruisers, 80 destroyers, 350+ Corvettes (50% torpedo)
Other side: 20 battleships, 40 cruisers, 60 destroyers, 120 Corvettes

The end result was loss of my side, the opponent had no Corvettes left but still had about 8 battleships. At the end of the Battle sure I only had my Corvettes left due to their evasion but even their torpedo varients were unable to deal enough damage to the battleships to win even when it was Down to 100+ Corvettes vs 10 battleships. This doesn't mean this is true for every game, but I will not be buiding such imbalanced fleet composition with focus on Corvettes. In the release Version of Stellaris I wrecked an opponent who had 40+ battleships With my 800+ Corvettes and I won easy, but that doesn't seem to be the case now. Still integral but not overpowered.

That is true, the larger ships will favour shooting at their larger counterparts and those Titan lasers rip through capitals like Jimmy Saville through a hospital.

It does depend on how the AI fleet is setup and composed though. Going up against an AI the other day, I took 100 odd corv's (a mix of autocannon and torp/disruptor boats) alongside roughly 30 frigs, 30 destroyers and a similar number of cruisers.

They were of a similar composition, roughly, possibly had a few extra Cruisers. They were generally setup with lots of torpedoes and disruptors - even their bigger ships had a lot of small turret slots and torps.

While my corvs did a bang up job of ripping open their big ships shields and putting decent holes in them, the enemy corvs did a number on them alongside the destroyers and frigates.

By the end of it, my larger ships were largely untouched but all my corvs and most of the frigs were gone. The AI fled with a few destroyers and Cruisers of their own. Their torps were wasted as I had PD coming out my bum and their disruptors had a hard time against my larger ships shields with capacitors. My smaller ships had no tanked shields and fell quicker, however.

I've found energy torpedo cruisers with the mining lasers interesting. Since mining lasers ignore 100% armor they actually can beam down other cruisers and battleships ok enough mid-game. The energy torpedoes will strip shields for the lasers too =D

Are energy torpedoes vulnerable to PD?

Are energy torpedoes vulnerable to PD?

No. However they're vulnerable to the combat AI's poor target choice for weapons with high bonus vs. shields.

If you use energy torpeoes on a corvette fleet, only one in five corvettes should have them, the other four should have weapons to take advantage of the exposed hull.
