Succession War mechanics are the weakest thing in this game. You also can't see which allies will join or who all you're fighting against in this "succession war" popup, you just get this Yes or No popup.

I've said this many times but Succession Dispute needs to be a fast-expiring CB (sort of like an Insult), not an immediate war.

This would solve most of the mechanics involved.

I hate how you dont get a choice in a succesion war.
No, I do NOT want to start a huge war with france/austria/russia over an OPM that I could much easier vassalize/conquer than sit in a pu with for 50 years

There really needs to be way we could refuse inheriting an union...

Well, the other case, where the nation that is inheriting is contested by their rival, the rival gets to pick, so ya, it should be doable.

I've got a few wars coming down this front when France and Castile fall to my growing empire. My family is now on the throne to 4 countries, Castile, France, England and Sweden and of course mine haha

Next up, Muscovy.

I find the way the war started more interesting than anything else (which all seems reasonable).

I thought your opponent in the succession war is supposed to be one of your rivals....any idea how they ended up fighting you?
Also, was France the warleader in their war? Surely the war would have ended when they left it?

That's just it - France was the warleader - they just left and I had no way of ending it as someone else became leader. It's basically a fix - the only way they could declare war on me, but god knows why it arose in the first place. Completely ruined the game, which I have now abandoned.

I just hate france picking defensive idea and getting that +15% morale. It already has a +20% national idea. That's +35% morale in total...Also, they pick both offensive and quality ideas which allows them to have +12.5% discipline.

That's the point of idea groups - you have to pick idea groups which synergize with your national ideas.

That's quite the understatement. I've seen CNs declaring a war on other CNs, resulting in a World War in the 17th century, just before declaring an independence war on their overlord (most likely due to rising WE->hitting 100% liberty desire). Afterwards their overlord had to fight 76487384738 enemies while the CN just sat there and waited to be granted independence. The current system is flawed. If the main participant of a war isn't involved anymore, the war should be ended with a white peace.

Yes. I was fighting a war for vassals claim, they enemy was losing in another war and was forced to release said claim as independant nation. The war was stalled because noone controlled the wargoal. Neither side could attack each other since no MA from other nations and we were not bordering. Stupid pointless war.
Agree 100% with you. Invalid wargoal = auto white peace. CK II has it too.

Why didn't you just concede them the PU on the first day?

Mainly because they weren't occupying Corsica, so I couldn't concede it to them. They actually showed no interest whatsoever in their supposed wargoal and were "not currently interested in anything [I had] to offer." Believe me, if there had been any way to concede, I would have. I ended up with my army completely destroyed, most of my country occupied and finally gave up when Morocco (and allies) declared war and started to occupy my north African provinces.

Well this is stupid, but I remember in about 1.5 patch or so I played fun-game with BYZ and ended up in one war with austria as allies and during war succesion war started between me and AUS but first war didn`t end so we were allied in one war and fighting each other in another war.. that was messed up I tell you xD

Anyway I agree that claiming thorne, dynastic politics etc. need a rework or at least palyer should be able to reject PUs to avoid such situations.
