Coronations

What's the reasoning behind inviting foreign nobles to a coronation? I've been invited several times to the coronation events for the HRE, France, Croatia etc while being a lowly count in the Kingdom of Sicily. Seems weird that vassals of other realms are allowed to attend while not having any royal ties.

Think of it as a way to hobnob with the far more powerful, one of the few occasions in which you can. Make connections, court relationships, etc. For them, it's more prestige to have more nobles there. Not...actual prestige, but abstractly.
