Two historical games started so far. Two times Italy gobbles Yugoslavia without a breath in late 39, two times Germany starts justifying on USSR in May / June 40 leading to a Barbarossa in July / August 40.

It's not huge sample size, so what have you all seen?

Not to mention that 1.5.1 seems to have allowed a chance for ahistorical options, as I have gotten both Franco-British Union and China ceding Beijing. While I'm hoping that particular issue is a bug, it definitely seems to be the case that games are overall less historical in timeframe at least than 1.4.2.

Yep:-

* Italy one-shots Yugoslavia, so doesn't require German support / intervention.
* Italy smashes the proverbial out of the UK in the middle east, so doesn't require German support / intervention.
* Germany doesn't invade Norway, so doesn't run the risk of getting bogged down there.
* Germany ignores a year's worth of focus tree decsions to justify on Russia in Q2 '40.

Another 12 hours of my life wasted on this game :(.

I´ve already played four games with URSS since the patch two with Germany with full bonuses. The first one Germany attacked in Summer of 1940, as soon as the non-agression pact can be dissolved. It really made sense as they had already conquered the rest of Europe. However, in the next playthrough I didn´t move my divisions back to the Dnieper as soon as they started their focus and just stacked everything in the border. That prevented them from breaking the pact (As they didn´t have 200% divisions than me) and weren´t able to do so till a year later, when you can disband it if you have similar forces on each side. So it kinda worked historically for me if I just didn´t concede fighting on the border.

Can´t speak about the IA though, I just did a short trial game as China in this patch and I didn´t play very long.

Also in the game Germany attacked minon 1940 was by far one of my bests HOI4 SP experiences. Germany attacked me way before I expected. They crushed my army and pushed all the way back to Moscow and Leningrad. I barely held the line in northern Russia at the gates of Moscow and I was to stall the war from there. A winter and a half later, attrition massive casualties in failed offensives had worn the Germans down and I was able to slowly push all the way back to Warsaw and later to Berlin. It arrived a year early, but it was my most "historical" Barbarrosa vs an IA by a long shot.

Has anyone figured out what's going on with the Soviet-Japan border conflict? I've taken to just giving myself the PP and war support back via console command until I understand why I'm auto-failing despite having no control over the units involved, and none of the operations have anything I can hover over/click on to provide useful information.

From what I experienced, playing as the USSR yesterday, there was one province that I put an entire army in on Korean/Soviet boarder. Once the countdown ran out the 1 Japanese division that was on the other side and I think like 8 of the 30 divisions I placed in the province started fighting. My troops won the skirmish and then another countdown started on if Japan would escalate or not. The timer ran out and that was it. The boarder event was over.

Did you lose 100 PP and 10 war support a few hours after it started? That's happened every time to me.

In my game as USSR, Germany finished off Poland, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg and France as soon as October 39. Cant be long until they start justifying against me, as well.

Also, the 30% Reinforce rate for NKVD was removed as well...at least in the beta 1.5.1 patch.

Yep, but there is an extra 10% reinforcement bonus on the doctrine now. NKVD should be buffed a bit more maybe, as now rehabilitated military gives you better bonuses overall, as the reduction of covert actions that NKVD gives you is hardly ever usefull, while the 2x50% on doctrines that the other branch gives you it´s pretty neat.

With the Reinforce "buff" on MA, basically nothing has changed for the SU, although this is a WW2 game and 80% of the war was in the Eastern Front, the Soviet ability to mobilize 800 divisions after Barbarrosa is still non-existant as a mechanic.

Mass Assault is just as awful as before. Reinforce rate is the last thing that could save MA war doctrine.
If you think Mass Mob is bad on Soviets then you aren't making an army suited to it, i.e. org spam. You can defend against the AI forever with pure inf and fighter 2's, and then you're free to do whatever else you want to attack since it's trivially easy to maintain air superiority.

Pre patch reinforce was about 35% from NKVD+radio, now it is about 15% and a tiny "bonus" from MA. USSR was beated by a nerf stick but in a wrong places.
