This is about game play, not realism. If you're interested in realism at all, this isn't the game for you. (There may not be one,; if there was, it would likely be boring as sin.)
How so? Since Europa Universalis 1, this series has always been about historical realism. And that's what makes it different from other games.

I guess his point is that relative to other titles in the genre/sub-genre, particularly the non-Paradox stuff, there is at least a semblance of realism. That is, insofar as it's possible while still remaining thoroughly a game. Maybe he just wants a simulation (or at least the illusion of it), though. It seems many do.

hmm I really see peace treaties as more of a limit than overextension. maybe when playing in Europe or HRE specifically it is worse, but you can have vassals there. I haven't played in there.

I'd like to see the increase in time based on size only be dependent on provinces not of your primary culture (or maybe all accepted cultures, debatable).
So england colonizing st. helena and diego garcia doesn't make it cost more to core a province. also, culture converting will decrease core cost. I like it, it makes sense.
