AoD and CORE - no icon for infrantry?

I've been browsing the forum, and just can't find the answers to the following 2 questions:
1) in AoD vanilla as well hoi2, on the map army units do look like infrantry or mech. But in Core, it looks like hoi1 - only the planes are planes. I installed AoD then core 4.9.0 then the icon set (bw or color, same thing). Is there a way to get a AoD vanilla view instead of a "wargame" view of the map?
2) the infrantry and panzer units as well as the brigades have also lost their picture icons and have also "wargame" like icons.

What am I missing?

So now, why isn't CORE just incorporated into AOD?

Some parts of it will, most likely, though that's not up to us. But neither BL-Logic or ourselves is striving to turn AoD into CORE in full. ;)

Just one request: if you should ever do it, please don't change the current model structure... readapting hundreds - when not thousands - of icons would be a modder's nightmare!

We aren't planning to. Though some of us sometimes seem to forget that changing a model setup isn't just about changing a CSV file. So I already had the odd nightmare or two in the past. And, as our model setup differs from the regular AoD setup, there have been some mismatches in the graphics earlier on. No idea whether those are corrected already, or yet to be included in a future AoD patch.

Ok, we're speaking the same language then :) .

I'm aware of the fact that CORE uses some different models to represent larger divisions. Just to be completely sure, though, I was referring about not implementing this as a standard for vanilla AoD too, since for those of us who made lots of "ordinary" icons that would mean being forced to convert them to the new standard. I'm not against a "COREization" of AoD but this matter should be left separate.

But I'm sure it was already clear before. Thank you very much for the understanding, Hagar ;) (and, btw, kudos for your team's work)

No worries mate. ;) What we've agreed upon is that they can actively use parts of CORE, either 1:1 or in a different setup. We did limit it in such a way that the more complex things, like our tech tree and large event chains, will remain CORE's first and foremost. Apart from that there are no requirements on what to include and what not, let alone in what form or to what extent, that's basically up to BL-Logic to decide. All parties are free to actively ask for ideas, details regarding the way the game engine works and such, and request tweaks to the engine for instance. Or to volunteer files or ideas for future inclusion. Whether they will be granted is not for us to decide, though such content usually is highly appreciated and we certainly can't complain about the number of our 'tweak suggestions' that have been honored. So I do expect to find some modified event images in 1.05, for one.

+2.. i usually have lots to say about things when i want to post something, but i just installed CORE and started to play it for the first time and all i have to say is WOW!

I've been playing strategy games ever since they came out in the 90's and CORE has to be the most intense and thought-provoking MOD i've ever seen. This MOD really makes one "think before acting... strategically speaking" and all the events is just boggling!!!!!!!!!

Many great thanks to all who have worked on the CORE!

Now THAT's a compliment... :D

To try it is to love it :)
I could came back to vanilla only because of the new AoD features and I am afraid once 0.50 will be out, no more vanilla AoD will satisfy me enough compared to the experience you can get with C.O.R.E.

Just make it quick... :p

as of the beginning of November, any progress notes on CORE for AOD? looking greatly forward to a more refined product. KUGW

We are working on version 0.50 but there some bugs in the .exe that may require to skip an 1.05 version and optimize/wait for 1.06. CORE 0.50 is working with 1.05 but still needs lots of adjustments to economic and military balance.
Major problem is you can't reload a savegame unless you are moving the files from moddir savegame directory to vanilla savegame directory.

I can report that it is beginning to be fun to play the current development version (0.50.6).

This weekend we solved two problems:
Italy getting stuck in Ethiopia due to excessive attrition (solved by AI improvement and terrain modification)
Finnland joining the Allies each time after the Winter War and getting creamed by Germany via Norway, Germany then loosing in Russia because it is overstretched (solved by finding a buggy AI event).

There are many things to work on. At the moment, we are mainly playing CORE with the AoD engine and we are not yet using any of the new features such as better event commands, additional brigades etc.

Haven't been by in a while gents. Any chances of an update? I own AoD and not much has happened since 1.05 and it's now March of 2011. I am assuming that some of this is due to all the collaboration between you guys. Can we get some official words? Thanks.
