I was playing as England/GB, and tried to reduce Austrian influence in the HRE (which is integrated very fast).

I got Tyrol and released it as Styria in then 1620s, hoping to get all the Styrian provinces for 0 AE later on and give a trim to Austria at the same time.

Before I released Tyrol (I mean Styria), the tooltip stated that the cores would disappear in 1644. After I released it, all the remaining Styrian cores had their "expiring date" switched to 1544 (WTF ? ). At the start of the next month, they disappeared (and my plan to prevent further HRE integration had to become much more convoluted).

Would it be possible to :

- Fix these cores dates changing randomly.
- If possible, make the HRE integration harder (more 30 years war events, more HRE reforms etc)
- Ensure that the AI Ottomans become a real threat to Europe (don't let the Arabic/turkish culture belong to the same group, this was an old remain from EU3, but now what would be needed is an event giving cores and not claims on the Mamluks in the 1500s, and possibly less powerful national ideas). This should make Russia and Austria's game harder, which would better for game balance (throughout Europe).
- Vassal feeding is very gamish as it stands. There should be some AE for the overlord. The duration of Vassal/PU integration should depend more on the size of the target...
- The Spanish AI should make a dash to the Carribeans/Aztec land early.
- The AI needs to understand that fights in mountains take time, and therefore very distant ennemy reinforcement can come. Overall, the AI should be wary about mountains and need to know to retreat if it takes more casualties than it inflicts in mountains. It should also consider trying to retreat/regroup its troops to mountains if it is on the defensive.

The same thing happened to me yesterday when I took a single province from Timurids and released Persia as vassal.

There's an extensive thread discussing this problem.

Cores of non-existing countries have their expiration time doubled.
The problem is that once you release the country, the multiplier disappears and the expiration dates of their cores are recalculated which can result in setting them in the past - exactly how it happened in your case.

The only thing you can do is make peace on the last day of a 30-day month going into a 31-day month (such that the offer is accepted on the 1st), immediately release the vassal on the 1st of the next month, then declare through the truce. Since the diplomatic timer is 30 days, you'll just barely be able to declare the war. Going to war will refresh your vassal's cores, hence saving the day.

Vassal feeding for 0AE is *very* limited even when larger nations like Novgorod have disappeared and then you bring them back and feed them provinces from Russia/Muscowy. It's not that many provinces and when you have given back all the provinces then you'll get the normal AE for taking province even if you sell the province to Novgorod.

But yeah... EU4 has been broken since patch 1.3. Well that is if you like to conquer. If not then EU4 is working perfectly at the moment.

Off the top of my head, here's a list of countries for whom at least one third of base tax comprises major or semi-major vassals that can be core fed: France, Russia, Austria, Ming, Timurids, Ottomans. Another 20% of France's base tax can be acquired from smallish vassals, and if Denmark integrates Norway and Sweden, both of those and Finland can also be released. That's just about the whole map. EU4 is hardly broken (how I wish that word would just disappear from the vocabulary in these discussions), but it's got some kinks that need to be worked out.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this particular "bug" is WAD. I don 't like it either, but I don't think it's technically a bug.

I personally don't think any dead-nation cores should ever disappear.
