I recently had an interesting idea. I rarely get onto the forums, or play games with others, so forgive me if this is an idea everyone has heard of already.

I am working in a different city from my friends and family for the summer. I thought that it might be an interesting idea to play a couple of hours of cities skylines and then post the city on steam. Then my brother, who also plays cities, can subscribe and play several hours. He will then post the city for me to play further. We would in effect be cooperatively building the city. Is this something already commonly done? It seems like a fun way to bring cities skylines to a sort of multiplayer.

Does anyone know if there are likely issues with doing this?

the main issue is that if you are using mods/assets that your brother is not using, and vice versa then they will either nor show up in game or for mods potentially not loading the map.

You'd have to play without any workshop items and no mods, but yeah, can be done easily. There are people posting their save game files on the workshop - if you wanna look.

Thanks for the response. I had figured the assets might be an issue so I had already turned them all off just to be sure. Regarding mods, I've been playing with them off since mass transit so that wasn't an issue.

Not necessarily, you'd just have to agree on assets and mods before hand and make sure all players are subscribed to them.

Shortly after the game was released a group of players put together a "Succession Game". It was very elaborate with the election of a mayor and each player assigned an area of the game. I don't know if they are still doing it as I just went to the bottom of the city journals thread and the last post was in 2015. They had trouble holding it together as real life would intrude and players would miss their turn, but it was interesting while it lasted.
