Well, this vassal's name is confusing...
XGBrOz7.jpg
That's because Paradox stole the grave accent from it; it should have actually been Liège.

It was never called (even in semi-official instances) Poland-Lithuania. Such thing in EU1 was very annoying.
It was the Commonwealth of Both Nations, but certainly not "Poland-Lithuania".
False. Check text of 3rd May Constitution or Lublin union. It wasn't called Poland-Lithuania, but it wasn't called Commonwealth of Both Nations.

I only said it was never called Poland-Lithuania, NOT that it was always called ROP (CBN?).
In 3rd May constitution it was called simply "Commonwealth", like it's in game.
EDIT: In 3rd Mays constitution there was no "The Commonwealth of Both nations" but there were intitutions "of both nations" ("treasery comitee of both nations").

Liege changes name to Luttich if you conquer it as the Dutch, guess it's the German name for it, because every dutch person calls it Luik...
It's a name of a country (apart from being the name of province), so it changes nothing. They are annoying vassal due to their name.

Nah, we definitely need Rastafarian in the Nation designer. Also, we need an achievement or a mission for the Caribbean nation similar to the "recover our cultural heritage" mission that Japan gets (btw, kudos to the devs. Had to chuckle :) Also, why wasn't Manga named yet? ).

Achievement: The five-leaved Herb
"Own Jamaica, Ganja, Amsterdam, Moron and the Highlands as Ethiopia".

I'm, quite literally, rolling on the floor laughing.

There used to be a thread 'suggest new achievements' and there were countless good ones in it but if I had to choose a single best achievement to introduce to eu4 it would be this one.

Anyway, what do you think about changing following country names?

Aq Qoyunlu -> Ak Koyunlu
Golden Horde -> Altin Urda
Hejaz -> al-Higaz
The Knights -> Order of Saint John
Mamluks -> Al-Mamalik
Funj -> Sennar
Oudh -> Awadh
Qara Qouyunlu -> Kara Koyunlu
Ragusa -> Dubrovnik
Timurids -> Timurid Empire
Ottomans -> Ottoman Empire
Tuscany -> Florence
UPCA -> Guatemala (hey, Haiti applies to all Caribbeans in vanilla game!)
USA -> United States

?

Doesn't sound English.
No, what language is that?
No.
Sure, why not?
No.
No idea.
No idea.
Doesn't sound English.
No way. Ragusa was far more used before Yugoslavia was born.
No. It sounds better but would make no sense if a government change were to take place.
Same as above.
Yes.
No.
Yes.

Doesn't sound English.

Ak Koyunlu and Kara Koyunlu are Turkish version of Persian Aq Qoyunlu/Kara Koyunlu so I have no idea what do you mean by 'doesn't sound English'.

No. It sounds better but would make no sense if a government change were to take place.
Same as above.
Yes.

Chances of Ottomans/Mughals becoming republic are very small and I would vastly prefer seeing 'Ottoman Empire' painted across the map - 99% of gameplay - than looking at its government at 1747 and see constitutional monarchy oh god doesn't fit their name - 1% of gameplay and extremely minor stuff if you ask me (not to mention the fact the name could be converted to 'Turkey' if such government change took place)

Montenegro would have to my favorite, considering it apparently means "Black Mountain" in Latin. I'd love to be a Black Mountainite. Also sounds like a good home for a Europa super villain. Not to mention the connection with Fallout: New Vegas. Georgia is also a good country.

Most badly named nations have been said already, but if we're doing bad province names, I'd have have to nominate Thang Long, but I think it was patched out in 1.8. So sad.

I still read that as "vagina guard." I know it's wrong but I can't be expected to figure out how to pronounce that mess of letters.
Actually You can be expected to do so. I mean... these are all either english names (Spain, not Espana etc) either english transcription (for non-latin alphabet, so Vijayanagar, Majapahit etc).
So You read it like any other english word. If You have problems, well, do it like in the elementary school: divide it into syllables.
Vi ja ya na gar
Vija yana gar
Vijayanagar
It's easy. Same for any other name in this game (I think that some european nations, especially in HRE have their native names, but they are usually easy to pronounce).

All of those central indian states with names like Mewar, Malwa and Marwar... they sound too similar.

Names I like for various reasons:
I really like Vijayanagar :)
Khorasan
Bundelkhand
Mysore
Malabar
Jaisalmer
Kong
Chachapoya (both pronounciation and meaning)
Lanfang
Ramazan
Transylvania
Gondwana
Wanka (bad humor I know but...)
Wrong game but I like the duchy of Dandakaranya in CK2 too.

Province names:
Middag (at least for those of us who speak Swedish).
Haha (no comment needed I think)
Pamir (I just like this name).

I think your list looks a litte lost without the glorious province of "Karta".

If CK2 and EUIV have taught me anything, it's that reading transcribed Indian names is not any harder than reading German and works on the exact same basis (cut big words up into syllables). It doesn't even require that much effort.

All of those central indian states with names like Mewar, Malwa and Marwar... they sound too similar.

Honestly I don't like the majority of Indian names.

1) M-Clan
Malwa
Mewar
Marwar
Mewat

The craziest thing is, if i remember correctly they are all in the same area.

2) The nations that are very clumsy to pronounce
- Jaunpur is just horrible. Janpur, ok, Janupur stupid but ok - but Ja-UN-Pur, ugh.
- Oudh. Similar to some organic sound of pain (?) tiredness (??) disappointment (???) but doesn't really fit anything.

EU4 is incredibly European - friendly regarding Mesoamerican names. In civilization 5 playing Aztec was awesome but in the same time painful due to the complete unability to differentiate between my cities of Teotihuacan, Tlatelolco, Texcoco, Tlaxcala, Tlacopan, Tzintzuntzan, Tlalmanalco, Tepexpan, Tepetlaoxtoc and Tequixquiac :p city names copied from wiki as I don't remember a single one of them.

On the other hand Chinese states are cool and I like Chinese language and so on but oh my God: Chu, Huai, Jin, Wu, Liang, Min, Ning, Qi, Qin, Shu, Shun, Tang, Xi, Yan, Yue, Zhou, Miao, Dali, Changsehng, Yi. I wonder if Chinese people have similar mindf**** while looking at maps of Slavic countries.
