An Awesome w/ 2 PPC + 5 ML works pretty darn well. You can snipe at long range with 2 PPC and up close use 1 PPC + 5 ML. Overall though I prefer the missile variant of the Awesome. It is annoying how hot the energy weapons are.
The big energy weapons are jut too hot.

The Awesome works with its classic 3 PPCs with a good Heat Eschanger to reduce weapon heat. I won’t run it anywhere except a cold biome because it will overheat too much, but it works in tundra and such.

Coolest looking mechs in game by weight class:

Light: Firestarter
Medium: Shadowhawk
Heavy: Thunderbolt/Catapult K2
Assault Atlas/Battlemaster (I'd say Highlander too except the MWO version is too boxy. I wish it looked like it did in Mechcommander 2, now that was sexy).

Yeah, energy weapons are heavily gimped compared to ballistics. As if buffing the autocannons wasn't enough... As for the Awesome, I find the AWS-8T to be my personal favourite - with a PPC in each arm, 2x SRM-6, proper cooling and 3x JJs she's a beast at any range. Still no match for my favourite HGN-733P configuration, but oh well.

By the way, the Awesome looks great. I like that they've hunkered it down a bit, looks like a huge pitbull with big guns everywhere.
