Just a fun thread. Which Mechs that are in the game look the coolest, either from a "this is just badass" or a "wow they modeled it so well" perspective? I haven't gotten far so if there are any surprise Mechs I don't know about them yet, and while I don't mind spoilers some people might so spoiler tag any that might come as a surprise.

As a PS to your post, you may post what you think the coolest looking Mechs that aren't in the game are. Or that you don't know are in the game yet.

My favorite ones in-game that I've seen so far are the Griffon and the Orion. Love the stovepipe arms on the latter.

PS: Favorite not in the game is definitely the Vulture. The angles on it are just sexy as hell.

Jagermech looks good.

I love the models that were so ugly in TT that I'd never use being nice looking now.

Jager, Dragon, Blackjack off the top of my head.

My favorites are the Orion and Thunderbolt, but probably because they have always been my favorite mechs and the TT models were... gross. Not unusable bad, but cringe worthy IMO.

Playing MWO, I never noticed how stately and clean looking the Black Knight is. I don't own one in MWO, and while fighting them, you don't get time to appreciate how good that particular model is.

The animation work done for HBS Battletech really brings these mech models to life in a way MWO can't for gameplay reasons. Specifically the arm movements that MWO can't use because of targeting mechanics.

For me it's the enforcer. Scale notwithstanding, something about its appearance just feels menacing and imposing, unlike some of it's goofier counterparts. A lovely compromise between sleek and rugged too.
The catapult comes a close second, to me it looks and feels like a proper weapon of war with a distinct purpose.

Haven't had a good look at a lot of the assault mechs though, so not a fully formed opinion yet.

The mech that surprised me with how much I like its appearance is the Thunderbolt. It's wacky and asymmetrical, but it really works.

I just fought a King Crab, most awesome looking one I've seen!
Hail to the King!

I got mine this afternoon. It appeared in a mission and its backup was on the other side of a ridge line, so I had several turns to play with my food and bounce the pilot until he gave up. :)

Catapult-K2

Worthless mech, but looks so cool.
The K2 is quite usable with a pair AC5s for primary weapons. With energy weapons, it is pretty worthless. But that is more of a problem with the LL and PPC than with the K2.

I like the Black Knight, I just don't think it is quite the TT Black Knight. The helmet needs to be more of a particular medieval helmet.

This is an excellent point. This is something that we've never had in a Battletech game, and it is a lot of fun. :)

The coolest looking mechs in the game... Aren't.
I want a Marauder so badly. I know it will suck with the current weapons, but it would be so cool!

There's no reason to use a catapult if you're just going to put 2 AC-5s on it. Plenty of other mechs can do that for less c-bills.

I'd use the Jagermech for an AC platform if I had the choice. I'm just pointing out that if you have a K2, there are things you can do to make it work. :)

I absolutely *love* the Jagermech. Got one during my Weldry Campaign, & swapped out the twin AC's on one arm for a single AC10+. She is a total *beast*. Got Behemoth in that baby!

Hrm. My favorites from visual styles, thinking:

Griffin - i actually like the way it looks sometimes i was tempted to take out my griffin instead of my SHD even though the SHD punched better (basically the same builds)
Blackknight looks REALLY good.
Vindicator looks good (but kinda sucks, so got rid of mine first thing)
Battlemaster
Kingcrab

Can't tell if i love highlander - bits of it look great, other bits , meh

That Jagermech is the reason why Behemoth is dead in my campaigns. I started over a bit after Weldry because I decided I didn't like my character's callsign after all (dumbest reason to abandon a campaign ever? Possibly). In both Weldry runs the Jagermech murdered Behemoth. Dekker, incidentally, is still alive and well...

Well, fortunately at Weldry the Jager & Trebuchet were focused on Angus Thunderclap (the Commander). Luckily his plot armour saved his rear end from death.....though not from a very extended period in the Med Bay!
