Does this game only model convoys to overseas national provinces? If yes, then is the Battle of the Atlantic totally moot, since the U.K. would not be sending any convoys to the U.S. and Canada?

There are some convoys over the North Atlantic, especially from Canada to Britain and back to carry resources and supplies. The North Atlantic convoys are however not of critical importance as they were IRL, since it is impossible to ship produced goods such as tanks and aircraft.

If you want to cripple the British economy by taking out the convoys (which is very costly and timeconsuming) you would have to concentrate on the South- and MidAtlantic to intercept their rubber- and oilconvoys. Once the British have to convert coal into oil and rubber they are toast, since they lack coal.

Not really... you have a lot of convoys going through Gibraltar towards the home isles that can be targeted by the Kriegsmarine.

My problem is I don´t like being in the way for their naval bombers... so I set all my convoys far from the German mainland by sending all convoys on a route to Bermuda or Bahamas. And from there 1 big convoy to Glasgow... thus I avoid the naval bombers but I now have the battle for the Atlantic on my hands. Which I would have had even without taking a long way 'round. Even if you don´t play with a Germany at its best (that utilises naval bombers) it´s better to take the long way 'round since you don´t want submarines attacking your convoys and barely leaving their harbours. The proximity is a problem and only a fool takes his convoys straight to the home isles...

Humans can always manage convoys if they want to by doing the work that Arctic Fox mentions. You can not, however, alter the actual paths used by convoys. So if your convoys are taking too many losses, then do what Arctic Fox recommends.

But the AI would be basically stuck with the sometimes crazy movements. For example, if you send a naval taskforce from Los Angeles to Guam, the default path runs right by Japan for reasons unknown. So a human player could have the naval taskforce stop off in Hawaii and then go to Guam but the AI wouldn't do that.

You can convoy from your provinces own provinces to any other (you can even convoy to enemy provinces)

Why do this if trading on the world market automatically gets you the raw materials that you need, without the sticky details of shipment? Or does it?

You normally do not trade during wartime as you only get a percentage of the nominal trade. Besides which the UK has a lot of convoys set up to Commonwealth countries and also needs to get rubber out of Malaysia if it still has it. Most larger countries need to run convoys during war except for Germany and the Soviet Union until they start to expand and get non connected areas.

Ah, so "trade on the world market" getting you a small percentage of what the listed deal indictaes that you get is in effect simulating your transports to and from neutral countries being sunk by enemy warships?

Yes. Plus paying black market prices, bribing, paying 2x or 3x the normal cost of getting a merchant ship to sail in dangerous areas, etc. It's somewhat of an overkill as far as I am concerned. Playing Germany on very hard I only get 5% initially unless I use the empty convoys cheat (which I don't). A higher starting percentage around a 20% minimum would probably be more accurate.

The actual percentage that you receive can be calculated from the ledger pg 3 during wartime.

Yes lets all hope the convoy/supply system gets a major overhaul for HOI2. I am not saying that the current system is not effective, and seems to do exactly what Paradox intended it to. But I think that in general most of the players and posters in the forum would like to see at least some minor, if not significant changes for HOI2.

It seems that one ship works as well against a convoy as a fleet, although one ship is more vulnerable if attacked by the enemy. Single battleships or pairs of cruisers work well on anti-convoy duty, because they have the ability to escape before being annihilated by a bigger force. To effectively interdict in a sea zone you seem to need 1 ship in the zone and about three repairing nearby that can be rotated in as need be.
