With the pre-emptive caveat that there's probably going to be various balance changes to various things in the patch, which affects our evaluations of how good things are:

Is there any good reason to go for Anglican, over the other protestant options?

It just seems like a more-reliable-but-less-powerful kind of Catholicism. Based on what we've seen so far, I just can't see myself picking Anglican over the powerful focus of Reformed or the delicious flexibility of Protestant. Divorcing/spawning consorts is unexciting, gaining the odd cash infusion or stability is profoundly meh, and a bonus to Innovativeness (which itself looks like an unexciting mechanic that doesn't really do much) is just... blah.

I'm just thinking I'll take Protestant over this any day of the week. Convince me I'm wrong.

It depends how powerful Innovativeness is. It looks weak from what we've seen so far.

Divorcing and marrying consorts is way too situational to be useful. The added money and mercantilism isn't good for England, which brings in a lot of money and has high mercantilism as it is.

There will probably be a Steam Achievement related to Anglicanism so I'd try it out once.

Well, if you're Anglican England, War Score Cost vs. Other Religions applies to every other tag in the world, so that's nice. Missionary Strength vs. Heretics means easier conversion in Europe, i.e. non-Trade Company land where you might actually be converting. -10% Dev Cost is nice for playing tall and saving MP, which helps you accumulate Innovativeness by having more MP to spend on tech, I guess? It's not as terrible as it looks, though it's not as good as Protestant either. We haven't seen which events Anglicans get yet, nor if there are any military bonuses for the religion.

It seems like the religion and Innovativeness are geared for tall play and making money, but tall play in EU4 is pretty much always suboptimal compared to mindless blobbing and money is no object in recent patches, so that's part of why it feels lackluster I think.

Of course it's rubbish. It always was. To use the modern idiom, "the Conservative Party at prayer". Apart from the Deus Vult possibilities - against the heathen Dutch for example.

But that's no reason not to take it. Take the full-insane Evangelical version. Think of an early reverse-Brexit with Anglicanism overrunning France, if necessary by force. Revenge for the terrible HYW result.

Reverse the question: why wouldn't you take it? Only a heartless person - such as a Frog or a min-maxer - could possibly disagree...

;)

It depends on your goals, it looks like a strategy-specific religion to me. -10% dev cost and easier to snowball innovativeness/teching could very well be the best pick for a tall and advanced nation.

It may not be the best all-purpose religion around, but it could be the best answer to: "Assuming I'm going to focus on going tall instead of wide, which religion should I pick?".

Divorcing consort is basically prestige for PUs.

A consort regency is in effect a temporary dynasty change. This can be very powerful in conjunction with a way to control which dynasty you end up with. No weak claim is safe!

I don't think its enough to make it top tier but its Christian so its already better than most of the rotw religions based on dotf + ez missionaries
