Well, the new EU3 expansion isn't going to expand the timeline, so I doubt it'll happen, since there will be a big gap in time there. Best bet if you ask me would be to hope that Victoria 2 gets an expansion that will move the start date of the game back to 1820-21, to match up with EU3, and have a converter included.

Yeah, I did an old CC-EU2-Vicky-HOI2 conversion and the reality kind of sucked unless the player hopped around and tried to help underdogs in order to get a more historic outcome.

seems reasonable to me. closest anyone ever came to taking over the world was probably the British empire, after all, and they were hardly already dominant at the end of Crusader Kings. things like that.

it's not really for those who want to take over everything they can in every game, i think. more for those who do like hoping around, or who's skill better matches the difficulty.

in some EU3 games I've achieved a lot, but I've had more than a few actually end in situations that'd make sense for a victoria like game, i think.

not to mention the number of major wars that tend to start in the last couple of years in the game and have barely even going going, let alone come near being resolved, by the time the game ends.

still, if the games are designed to be converted, i think EU3 would need a few more internal issues once you get large enough, to reduce instances of even the player blobbing. but then it would be less awesome.

so, yeah... depends what you do i guess. some games are great for converting, some are just rubbish. [super-Burgundy + empire inheriting/diplo-annexing (i forget which) the entire (bigger than historic) French empire in one of my earlier (unexpanded) EU3 games would not a good conversion make, for all that it was basically ww1 already :D]

One of the problems involved is going to be the number of provinces involved and in my opinion Paradox will create an EU4 in the future with the new number of provinces and that is when you would see a converter.

You can do that the Vicky way: make a scenario for HoI2 and then, only change the values for your own country.

Hmm, yes I can see that his would be interesting... maybe there should be a converter option to have it only convert the human player's country and have the rest of the scenario historical.

If you don't limit yourself during EU§ and Vicky2, you probably could only fight with yourself. The idea sounds nice, the reality is very likely boring.

you are making the assumption that everyone starts playing the game in 1399.

Plus a lot of people dont power game and limit themselves to some degree. I do this especially when i am a eastern europeon country and I want to colonize siberia, I rarely go conquering west. Or if i'm a small colonial country, or started as a small minor.

Lets say I want to play as poland or something in Vicky2, i could start in the 1700s or so and have fun in both games.

A converter is something that people want in this game and its something that should be included.

One of the problems involved is going to be the number of provinces involved and in my opinion Paradox will create an EU4 in the future with the new number of provinces and that is when you would see a converter.
That shouldn't be a problem, hasn't been in the past for other converters with differences in provinces.

Quoted for emphasis.
I think it's what a lot of players want actually, and those who're aiming for world domination would still have the old convert everything option.

Unlikely even in Vicky 1 unless you have a weaker military than them and you have land that they want.
And if Germany's military is weaker than Burgundy's, you deserve to be DOWd and subsequently pwned ;)

I'm not the world domination sort, but it makes No sense to me to convert only the player country [whichever one THAT is, remember you can change every time you reload] while eliminating every factor that went into making that nation into what it is.

if you think it would be boring because it's too powerful, the simple solution is to switch which nation you play as.

think globally. the point in conversion, so far as I can tell, is to keep telling the story not of one Country, but of the world you've created with your game.

then again, i tend to mostly enjoy messing up history. I'll hop from one nation to another if i hit a dead end or get powerful enough that it's not interesting anymore.

and if you think about it, how many nations just kept growing from 1399 [or earlier] all the way until the end of ww2? empires, and even nations, appeared and vanished in that time.

the point, after all, isn't really to ... win. as such.

that's how i look at it, anyway.

I too have done a number of CK-EUII-Ricky-HOI2DD long cycle games, and they basically suck unless I go in and hand-craft the conversions.

Even now, the Ricky-HOI2DD converter is in name only, for among other disasters, there are no events in the converted game.

And IIRC, the Dev note only says there's a 'possibility' of carrying a game over...

Not very encouraging.

Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be a big priority with PI. I've been a big advocate of this for a long time. It's always been a dream of mine to play
CK---->EU----->Vicky---->HOI

Fan based converters are nice but PI needs to design their games with a converter in mind from the get go IMO.

Agree completely. It's not an adjunct feature; it's a core feature.

Transitional games gives an experience that cannot be covered in other mediums; each additional successful transition is a whole new game; so the long chain is, IMO, actually 10 games. And that's a selling point that no-one else has. I would hope that the PI folks would agree - that any game in itself is a great game, but for the same reason that we don't have 2 EU's covering 1400-1600 & 1600-1800, we don't have WWII without WWI - that Vic2 and HoI3 are intimately connected, and ought to be, would delightfully be, in the PI saga.

Not to mention that an option to convert would probably also boost sales for the game it converts to. In this case HoI3, but likewise, an option to convert from EU3 to Vic 2 could get EU3 fans to buy Vic 2 (and vice versa btw).

Yeah, it'd be awesome. I mean, imagine bringing a large outdated empire with a massive wooden-ship navy and a gigantic, but quickly dated army into the age of Nationalism, Industrialization, and Dreadnaughts...it would be pretty interesting trying to hold that empire together

(assuming you don't power game...I mean, if you're doing that, you'd be the only country left by the 1920's)
