I recently conquered the world in ironman mode as a catholic Roman empire, but decided then to convert the entire world to the hundu faith. As a result the more provinces convert over to the new faith the slower the save times become. At this point when half the world is hindu, my save times are closer to 1 minute. Beforehand when I was still catholic the save times were around 3 seconds. It is certainly possible that the problem is due to something else, but it does seem too much like a coincidence.
I'm running all of the available DLC except the most recent cosmetic/music packs. It would be a shame to abandon the save as I was hoping to actually reach the end date for once, but with save times such as these it ain't going to happen.
