What's the requirement? 50% + basetax of the heathen religion in your nation?
I want to play Sunni Spain.
I want to play Sunni Spain.
I had the impression it was changed so that rebels could not force convert you outside of your current religious group.
Guess it was just made more difficult to happen (the 50% plus in # of provinces) ?
Not basetax, just number of provinces. Then just accept demands of religious rebels.
Hopefully it'll be religious rebels that spawn in Berber land or Granada, then, once I feed and annex vassals across the sea.

I have a Sunni Poland in the HRE right now. (Tatar is a fully accepted culture.) It's taking me a while to convert Lithuania though...
Depends on the religious group and country actually. Usually it's just 50% of provinces -> accept demands. If you're Japan you can never leave Shinto, though. (Actually that's the only exception I know.)
How did you get Sunni Poland? Conquer Crimea and then let the zealots do the rest?
no way that is true. I have seen catholic japan plenty of times, with cardinals. I have seen reformed japan...
Western tech without westernizing, receiving max impious bonus is spiffy. I think Naples is, for some reason, able to deny integration of the union due to being cross-religious group?
Yes, this. As Ottomans I once got a PU over Granada, fed them some Catholic provinces, and then Catholic rebels converted Granada to Catholic. I could never use integrate after that; it was always refused.
No idea if this applies to inheritance too.
It is. You can END UP with a Catholic Japan, IF a daimyo converts to Catholicism, and THEN takes over Japan, which means you will have a Catholic Japan (which can then go Protestant or Reformed).
But Japan itself can never convert. It has to be via Catholic daimyo -> Japan. Shinto Japan will be Shinto forever.
