Playing Germany I am considering taking control of the army of Persia to open up a front against the English in India. However will this mean that I have to supply the Persian army with my oil and supplies? If so the deal doesn’t seem that appetizing.

Nope, taking military control just means you can move the Ai's units for him, the supplies and all still come from Persia.

Thanks for the reply :) That’s good news indeed. Have even managed to get Afghanistan to join the axis. Looks like the British are in for a tough blow against their weak spot in India then. That will force them to split up their forces even more.

I guess taking control of allied armies always is a good idea in that case since you get a bunch of free armies. Giving them some nice techs would make them somewhat more useful too.

It does make the AI less active though right?

The AI under someone elses military control will defend itself when attacked, but will otherwise not do anything unless ordered to.

It will, however, build up new troops according to own ideas.
BTW, what I lack or have not discovered is a possibility to give back military control. In most cases military control of other troops is a short term solution to some problem, when objective is achieved it becomes a burden.
Also, it would be good if you could ASK for an expeditionary force, not only get it at random.

Watch it! I tried the same thing in a game of mine and it made me lose. I brought Afghanistan and Iran into the Axis to fight in India and later the Russians went and beat them down and owned all of the caspian sea area. This will make it so you as Germany can't cut off those Soviet troops becasue they now own Iran and can retreat back to the mother land via Afghanistan. It can then become hard to win against the russians.

If you take military control over a country, the only way it can be given back is by editing the game files.
Military control is great when it is a small country, but, for example, you take military control over Italy as Germany, you will have to deal with their navy, their garrisons in Africa... So it is better to let it for Hungary or Bulgary, unless you are able, and like, controlling a lot of fronts.

Actually, it sometime countermands your orders. If you leave its capital uncovered, or it feels your incompetent for some reason.

I do not take military control without firing a custom event that changes the AI file for that country. The issue is that the AI continues to run it's set priorities and will countermand your orders. So you cannot count on units placed staying there. All my event does is set that countries AI to a very passive AI. Then when i place a unit, it stays.

I just took military control over Slovakia in my current game as Germany.

I chose the tactic to leave the buffer provinces of Poland alone while DoW'ing Estonia, Lithuana and Latvia.
Great allied buffer between Germany and Russia.

However, it was necessary to assume control over Slovakia so they couldn't conquer Polish provinces. That would have been a disaster.

----------------------------

In some cases it's a great idea to do it. Most of the time I don't like it because I don't want to handle everything.

Hey, Pax Mondo, it sounds like this event would stop the Italian Navy from sailing from sailing all over the Med on its own, to be reduced to sheer nothingness! What event is it - an ingame event with a number or one you created? Would you share it?

Thanks,

Chris
