With the new update drinks are now contraband. Put a drink machine in your prisoner canteen and watch your contraband count go up. Don't put a drink machine in your prisoner canteen and you lose a quality point. It's a dammed if you do dammed if you don't situation.

So I decided to get into modding. I'd like my prisoners to have drinks. If they make hooch I'll look for that, using item for not intended purpose and all that. I also think it's a good idea to let the prisoners have oranges, if they want them, they're gonna end up eating them in the canteen anyway.

Here's what I've done. In the existing mods folder I've made my own folder called mine. In that folder I put a manifest.txt with correct fields and a data folder. In the data folder I copied the materials_dlc.txt from the game source main.dat archive and edited the entries for orange and drink to remove the luxury properties.

Once in game guards still find drink during search/pat down, handcuff the prisoner and escort them to their cell and leave them there. No punishments applied as selected in the policy tab for luxuries.

It appears that the luxury tag being gone has removed any chance for punishment, so that part is working. The problem is the prisoner is still punished in a way by being sent to their cell. This can cause problems with the prisoner getting to scheduled activities in a timely manner.

Is there any way to change this behavior so the guard does not escort the prisoner?

Or even better a way to select if an item is contraband or not?

There's already a mod that does this, I was ranting about it in the discord for modders and UnAlpha made it for us :D

Basically you have to remove the luxury tag (which is a shame) and also you have to remove it as a brewing ingredient. Hope that helps? :D Join our discord if you haven't already the link is in the mod.

That mod was the basis for me making my own mod.

IIRC people have requested a way to choose if something is contraband or not way back when PA was in steam early access.

With the current state of the game I doubt it will be added. NO developer responses other then support (last dev in support was Feb this year) for almost 9 months.

It saddens me that such a great idea and fantastic implementation is now going to die.

Machetie don't discord.

It can't be made not contraband unless the luxury tag is removed, which is why they won't do it. They should have a contraband tag so we can remove that and leave things as luxury.
