I have over 5000 hours in this game according to Steam, but this is the first time I've had to post a bug thread...I am slightly frustrated.
I'm trying to play Manaw since I love the concept of the Isle of Man reigning supreme in the British Isles as a Republic. I have noticed MANY issues trying to make this happen, some are probably known from elsewhere some no doubt are new.
Unfortunately I didn't realize the scope of the issue until I'd already saved over several games which all had different problems with them.
Anyway gameplay issues:
If Duchy-level Manaw is made into a Republic and no other titles are owned outside the tribe itself:
No other houses spawn.
Ruler death = game over.
As soon as any other title exists, other Patricians will finally spawn.
The game still has issues if there are no other Duchy or higher level titles in existence.
Things I have seen:
If one other held Duchy title = things seem to behave, though I tend to see quite a few CTD at random times.
I had two other Duchy titles one game, and for some reason my dynasty always was elected Patrician even if underage or woefully low on prestige. Frequent CTD occurred during this game so it was unplayable (and also not very fun, and very overpowered).
Make Manaw into a Kingdom-level title.
Inheritence worked correctly.
Manaw (the Island) conquered by Alba while I wasn't Patrician (Most of the Duchy level titles were owned by my dynasty under one leader, the Duchy of Mercia was owned by an NPC, the Duchy of Cornwall wasn't created). Patrician only owned Manaw...Of all available titles for him to take, he takes the County of Cornwall and The Republic of Manaw instantly becomes feudal.
(TL;DR) Republic Patrician loses his only county, takes a county with a castle as county seat, Republic instantly becomes Feudal.
MASSIVE amounts of CTD start to infect this game.
I revolt, win, still have the Titular Duchy of Manaw as my Primary Title, have two other duchies as well - create Kingdom level title "Republic of Manaw" - now there are TWO Kingdom level titles of Manaw in England/Wales.
Oddly at some point the Duchy of Kent and the Duchy of Gwynedd became de jure of the Kingdom of Manaw even though the Kingdom hadn't been around in either Republic or Kingdom form for 100 years; not sure if this explains why there were two titles of the same name and rank in the world (one titular, one not???) Regardless so many CTD at this point the game became unplayable and the save corrupted so it was no longer Ironman anyway (and who wants to play non-ironman???)
I can upload the save if anyone from Paradox wants to investigate it. If there is information you need from me to help correlate please let me know.
Still can't wait for the next DLC though
