I'm more wondering when the contest will be over, some of the contestants are going overboard and submitting three or five.

I honestly dont see how thats a problem, the more events this thread gets the better for the game. Remember that paradox said they would add even non winner events in to the game providing they are good enough so please everyone write away! :)

Hello Paradox Interactive.. I've made up an inspired list for a "lost battle" event. Now I say inspired cause it does have some quotes from books, movies, songs - so I am not sure if it's copyrighted or not. But you do seem to have references to Karate Kid already in CK2 ;-)

Also, if anyone happens to like this, they can add quotes themselves. I've only just started.

Here is my event:

"When the horn sounded the retreat, you knew. The battle is lost. You hang your head for a while and look around the battlefield. Your men - what's left of them - are running to a safer place."

Option A - inspired by J.Ceasar
"Alea iacta est"
(so be it... the battle is lost)
---no effect---

now the fun part...

if character is Craven:
Option C - inspired by a song from Iron Maiden
"Run to the hills! Run for your life!"
(you run to safety as fast as you can)
* character gains stressed
* lose 1 martial

if character is Wroth:
Option D - inspired by the Terminator
"I'll be back!"
(you swear revenge)
* gain 10 prestige

if character is Proud:
Option E - inspired by Rygel 16th from Farscape
"I do not run away. I strategically maneuver."
(you may have lost the battle, but you tell yourself the war ain't over)
* your troop morale + 20%

if character is Honest:
Option F - inspired by Lord Vader
"The force is strong in this one."
(you must admit your enemy fought formidable)
* character's opinion of opponent leader +30

if character is Depressed:
Option G - inspired by a Klingon proverb
"Today is a good day to die..."
(ah get it over with!)
* 90% chance character dies

if character is Poet:
Option H - inspired by Edgar A. Poe
"my soul.. shall be lifted.. nevermore"
(I'm not worthy to command an army)
* character gains depressed

if character is Scholar:
Option I - inspired by Ghost Dog / Hagakure
"Matters of great concern should be treated lightly."
(it was just one battle after all)
* character loses stressed

if character is Mystic:
Option J - inspired by Dead Man
"The eagle never lost so much time as when he submitted to learn from the crow."
(your wisdom is legendary)
* gain 1 learning

if character is Arbitrary or Deceitful:
Option K - inspired by the Godfather
"I will make them an offer they can't refuse"
(you try to bribe the enemy)
* lose 10 gold
* character is imprisoned

if character is Christian and Zealous:
Option L - inspired by Pulp Fiction
"And you will know My name is the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon thee"
(you curse the names of your enemy)
* gain 50 piety

if character is Muslim:
Option M - inspired by The Beast of War
"Maybe it was not the will of Allah."
(Allah has different plans for us)
* lose 1 learning
* 30% gain zealous

if character is Mongol:
Option N - inspired by Genghis Khan
"An action committed in anger is an action doomed to failure."
(you may have found the reason for losing the battle)
* lose Wroth
* gain 1 learning

to be continued... (?)

Greetings.

Here's my Ulfberht event for Norse characters.

Trigger
Year 800-1100, must be Norse male, have Martial education, high Martial stats, minimum gold=200

Event Text
The Sagas were always milk and bread to your warrior spirit. You have always strived to make a story worthy of Skald's tale. Tis' good to fight as valiantly as the heroes of old, yet to possess a weapon whose very name strikes fear into the hearts of your countless enemies, it is something every noble warrior craves in the deepest essence of his soul. You have heard of a famous travelling weaponsmith who knows a secret of forging an unrivalled sword called Ulfberht. "My lord, I could make you a weapon as fine as Gram that slayed mighty Fafnir by the hand of Sigurd, but are you worthy of wielding it?" asks the mysterious figure of a blacksmith.

Option A
"Aye! I want this Ulfberht of yours!"
-200 gold, +100 prestige, Martial +2 (Maybe a new icon in character skills could appear and family sword could be inherited by the eldest son)

Option B
"Nay, I already have a sword and I'm yet to find an opponent who could best me."
+50 prestige, gain Proud

For more info about Ulfberht see here http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread889768/pg1 or this interesting documentary http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXbLyVpWsVM

I fully trust paradox with anything, they'll come up with a shortlist then offer their gems to the Johan the god of Paradoxes and in return they'll have his blessing with an upcoming expidition to convert the unbeleivers

True, I am just worried they may miss or misread a really good one, and it shall be lost forever, due to the volume needed to get through.

I imagine if they checked at the start an end of everyday as it's growing it would seem simpler as daily there ios only about 30-50 just checking now and again rather than stop it then count them all up at the end and just tick potential ones, that, I hope, is probably what they're doing

Either way, if there were only around 50, it wouldn't be so bad.

For those that seem to have problems with people continuing to create more events: Paradox does not say in their list of rules that a person may only submit one event. Therefore, if they do not have a problem with it, why should anyone? This is their party. Enjoy the events people write, I find most to be entertaining/interesting, and I'm sure Paradox does too. Besides, we have to give some intern something to do! :p So now for my third event! :D

There's a manga called Vinland Saga, which starts with the invasion of England by Canute's father at around 1000 AD. At some point in the series a character rushes in a battle riding on his horse, and another character, who is a Jomsviking, just punches the horse running towards him to stop him in one of the most badass moments in the series, knocking the rider off. In fact I feel that to be too damn badass to not include in what is pretty much the Viking expansion.

Trigger: You (Norse) are fighting an enemy army using the Jomsvikings (if you can't use them as a trigger make it a general event for being in battle as a Norse character with a very small chance of firing; additionally, if you can check for enemy doing a charge, check for that as well)

Event Text: In the midst of battle, as $(enemy commander) charged towards our forces, one of our Jomsvikings cut his/her charge short by punching his horse and knocking them both down!

Option: Quick, get him/her!
25% chance the enemy commander escapes
25% chance the enemy commander escapes, but is wounded
25% chance the enemy commander is captured
25% chance the enemy commander dies in the fighting
