Sooo, here is my rant about containment wars.

I won one as Germany against France and Russia, pretty proud of myself. Got declared on by the UK, France and Russia truce-break, I lose my containment war, disarm, I don't lose my infamy, and now I am in three containment wars (and against guys like Colombia at that) at once and of course lose because mobilization doesnt do that much without an standing army to protect you while mobilizing.

It makes no sense, the world should now see me contained, right? Should my infamy not drop below 20 or something if that happens?

I swear, if that stupid system is still in Victoria III, then I got one game I will not buy.

Thanks for listening to a grumpy rant like me.

Cheers :)

Did you give back any of the land you stole?

(Alternatively: You're Germany. Next time you're at peace, release a few German-cultured OPMs as puppets. You burn off -5 infamy each time, and you'll naturally reabsorb them due to being their culture union.)

Uhm... no. I just accepted peace and had to go through a few war goals, like lose my beloved Alsace-Lorraine.

Thanks for the tip :)

Infamy is like a child back in Victoria 1 and it probably stays; the idea is keeping you from over expanding like other paradox games.
Most likely infamy's gone and replaced by something else.

You can mod game so country will loose let say 10 bb then it loose contaiment war. This would prevent endless containment wars, since whole world can declare it while bb is high. Oh, and you can't free vassals while you are in war.

I hope in a new Victoria 2 infamy is re-worked and only one containment war can be declared at a time.

That's not necessary, what the OP is complaining about is that neither winning nor losing a containment war affects his infamy. The OP wants his infamy to go down once he loses a containment war, perhaps even if he wins it. While technically it makes sense for containment wars to reduce infamy when you lose them, if it will work in this way than it wouldn't achieve its objective: stop blobbing. If containment wars reduce infamy on loss than you can immediately surrender the initial containment war, wait the truce time during which you've got the "cut to size" penalty than rebuild your army, go over infamy limit again and vice versa. Yes, it will slightly slow you down, but not nearly enough. Also OP, do you think there should be a difference between a containment war at 25 infamy and a containment war at 100 infamy? Should losing the war in both situations reduce your infamy below the level? If not than where exactly do you draw the line?

I don't disagree with your words, but sometimes containment wars just turn into spam attack. In my mod I remember about 15 CW in same time, each with several attackers, initiated by such diplomatic monsters as Ethiopia, Nicaragua, etc.

Edit: Anyway, if someone wants to change it, add

Given the amount of mechanics-abuse infamy burn you can obtain as Germany, worrying about the consequences of making losing a containment war reduce your infamy is a waste of breath.

How so? Containment wars aren't restricted to Germany... Sure, Germany, like any other cultural union, gets a gamey way to reduce infamy, so what? What does 1 have to do with the other?
