Constant Rebellions?

I have a King with almost +30 Diplomacy and traits such as Gregarious so why is it almost everyone who held a title before I became King is rebelling against me??? It seems everytime my old king dies I am constantly at war with my own nation and its really infuriating me to be honest I am seriously considering shelving this game because I am getting nowhere. For the Record I am playing as a norman King of England and even my 2nd and 3rd cousins are rebelling against me for no apparent reason.

Also how do I change the culture in my provinces, I've been King for 50 years now and all my provinces are still Saxon which means endless peasant revolts on top of count/duke revolts. This game should just be renamed Rebellion Wars or something its ridiculous.

Check opinion of everyone involved in rebellion, check the tooltip to see why they hate you. If I had to guess, it's a combination of Too Many Duchies, ambitious pretenders, and crown authority.

Conquering England as the Normans is hard. Just remember how many rebellions William had to face down, and eventually resorted to burning half of northern England, then every subsequent succession was fraught with fratricidal struggles. Robert vs William, with Henry biding his time on the wings, then when Henry died you had the whole Stephen and Mathilda saga, after them you have Henry II and his rebellious sons, Richard, Geoff, and John, and John having to face the gravest of rebellious vassals, and the story goes on and on.

Successions will always be fraught with peril, especially when you're not as consolidated as you'd like to be, in a rebellious new kingdom. Just stick with it, it'll calm down. It was about 100 years for me when the cultures started really changing to English, along with the barons, lords, counts and dukes.

Having said that if you check out the opinions people have of you you may find it's something obvious, like you have too many duchy titles, or something, something you can fix easily.

I believe I had at most three or four dutchies in my name, I try to pass on as much as I can but in my experience when I give out Dutchy titles it always ends up backfiring anyway because they rebel eventually (either when the next King is in power or somewhere down the line)... Right now I am in the process of stripping titles off the rebellion prisoners so I'm back up to about 8 or 9 dutchy titles and no one loyal to give them to. It was all looking so good for me aswell because I just inherited Aquitaine and Gascony through marriage and I was expecting those vassals to revolt in those places, not my entire kingdom, the only places that seem to stay relatively content are my Normandy counts

Any more than two you personally own gives a pretty big opinion penalty -- thus encouraging more rebellions, it's self feeding -- start inviting nobles (Decision on the intrigue page) and handing those things out like popcorn.
