I think Paradox was quite merciful towards commies with the representation of their system in Vicky2. They should be going from one famine to another.

No it's already bad enough like that. Communist planned economies did not lead to famine, it was not that extreme, they just did not produce enough of some goods or over produced some goods in excess with no one buying them, and the goods were not always of good quality either. Quality though is not represented in Victoria, I wish it was though.

Just go commie, and use the huge tax income to subsidize all factories to keep everyone employed constantly. Militancy will drop, even though you'll have horribly inefficient factories.

There's no benefit to going planned economy relative to state capitalism in-game. I'd like to see a massive increase in the effectiveness of NFs under such parties, in order to represent the increased economic control the state has over its citizens under such a regimes and to model the forced industrialisation of the USSR/PRC/etc.
