Starting as the King of Poland, I ended up taking away all of my vassals titles and handing them over to my son. I imprisoned and executed a whole dynasty and my son became the Duke of Lower Poland, Upper Poland, and Silesia. I also gave him the titles to all the counties in those duchies. I didn't get to see him become king though and own all that land.

Are there any benefits if your character owns all counties and duchies directly?

Well, you won't see rebellions. On the other hand, you'll limit the total size of your kingdom pretty severely.

Also, some might escape your purges to foreign lands and convince foreign lords to press their claim.

Or, so the theory says.

you can only have so many baronies/counties directly under your control before penalties start getting applied. Your son probably made his own vassals, at least at those two levels. Also having too many ducal titles makes your vassals dislike...which in your case doesnt matter

Would it be best to have the least amount of vassals possible (and preferably sons)?

Also is there a way for your character to give one of his titles to someone else (not the main title though)?

I think it's a balancing act. Too few vassals - too powerful, if they get pissed at you for some reason. Too many vassals - harder to keep them all happy. And as for sons; won't some of them get a huge pretender penalty in relations?

Also is there a way for your character to give one of his titles to someone else (not the main title though)?

Yeah, through diplomacy. "Grant landed title" or whatever it was called.

Well, if you play your cards right, you should be able to get a fair amount of family members who are not pretenders. You'd pretty much need to fill your court with people from your line and keep marrying them all off. However, while I plan on doing it as well, the bonus is only +5 relationship for being a family member.

I also think that each of your vassals also have a court, so having fewer vassals may mean that your nation grows faster. I'd also think that your vassals may give land away to their own vassals, but they'll likely only do that if they go past their limit. You could, however, place all the vassals you want and then transfer vassalage if you don't want to keep everyone under you. However, I'd bet it would be best to keep them under you so that you can control them easier. Then again, going all the way down to the city level would mean you'd have a huge amount of vassals.

The only problem I see with this is that I believe those Dutchies get casus belli on you(someone correct me if i'm wrong).

I suspect you can't give away your characters last county title since he needs a "home" province, so to speak. Or is it possible to play non-landed characters now?

In an Ireland game (which was difficult to click on from the "Play" button until, like 5 times in, I realized I can zoom anywhere, oops), I got a big negative from the Bishops for having too many Duke titles, which cost me money. Not sure how many that needs to be, think I only had three (maybe four).

You guys should also keep something in mind with vassals being able to fight their own wars with each other. The more vassals you have, the more intra-realm conflict you will see until you can end vassal wars via crown authority. Vassals can be downright sadistic with one another, fighting wars for years that just kill off levies.

But if you consolidate vassals into a fewer, larger vassals, they are in a far better position to challenge you. You neutralize your advantage of being the biggest, baddest aristocrat in the realm if you make your vassals as strong as you.
