Aside from console, I often frequently edited savegames to give major European AI nations like Portugal, Holland/Netherlands, France, Castile/Spain, Teutonic Order/Prussia, Sweden, etc. their treasury a major boost, usually something like 500k added to it. How many of you have done this and for what reason? I usually do this to keep them going strong. And sometimes to prolong wars if possible, as it's often too expensive for them to keep wars going for so long. :p

I even edited savegames to add almost all major European powers not yet involved into a war over something, even if they're not allied with any of original war participants, to kind of simulate a world war in Europe like Seven Years War or major European conflicts like Thirty Years War. :p

I did something like that, but I never edit my savegame, it is much simplier to tag switch and type cash cheat many times

I've done it with the console. I've also given overly-successful nations infamy in the high triple-digits... makes for an interesting show. Naturally I compensate by buffing their manpower pool (the recruiting event) and giving them a massive pile of cash.

I should also add that I would also edit save games to give other certain AI nations core over a foreign territory where they would've historically controlled, most often well after EU3 timeframe. For example I gave France, usually my main AI rival as I often play their mortal enemy England, cores over Algeria and Lebanon, as both were historically former French colonies though in times beyond EU3. It bothers me that Spain and Portugal would often conquer almost all of North Africa but France, being just across the Mediterranean, just almost never showed interest in North Africa at all. Giving them cores over a part of Algeria sort of fixed that, as they would often declare war on Algeria or Syria (or whoever controls the Lebanon) for reconquest casus belli.

Other examples of giving cores according to historical reason includes giving Naples a core on Libya province as I knew Italy had Libya as colony in the past and giving Austria cores over capitals of Bohemia and Hungary that would force them to try to annex them one by one (you usually can't get capital unless you annex the whole country or if the capital province is surrounded by other countries). I would also give Muscovy cores over all Russian culture provinces it doesn't have core over. Later on, I would give France core over Vietnam, Dutch over Indonesia, etc. Just to spice it up a bit, I give Spain and Dutch cores over China-controlled islands of Chusan and Taiwan, which they might declare war on China to seize it and then both would fight it out in case of one of them are in possession over it, effectively simulating a colonial war over a contested possession.

I know it's lot of work but I don't mind it. :p

Tag switching is dangerous - giving AI control overy my nation often ends up with it building stuff I don't want, taking decisions I don't want and doing other things I don't like to my country.

For me it's exactly the sam feeling when you come back to your room and someone else cleaned it up for you and now you can't find anything!

Some things doesn't work like that, for example, when you are at war and you switch to your opponent and propose your old country peace treaty, you can't just go back and accept it, at least one day has to pass - if you get back immediately, this treaty won't be proposed. There are few things like that.

Oh I see.Well I mostly thought about giving cash or technology to other nations, there is no need to edit the savegame for that.

Yes it is. Watching your war-ravaged empire implode is just far too painful, the occasional 'stability', 'infamy -12' or 'annex REB' is just far too tempting for anybody who cares for the hours they've spent building up the game to see it go out the door but cheapens it oh so much.

Sometimes I'll use the console to "correct" what I legitimately feel is an unrealistic scenario, but that's just me.

I'm assuming this will be part of the Ironman mode, though I don't know if they'll add an option to disable console outside Ironman.
Personally, I've never used the console, mostly cause I don't know how and never cared.

Sometimes I'll use the console to "correct" what I legitimately feel is an unrealistic scenario, but that's just me.

Yeah, I used to do that a lot but now I tend to avoid doing so as the little scenarios tend to pile up. One time I recently did it was when Mexico declared independence, in getting ready for it (I'm not used to colonial empires, I tend to play in Asia or inner Europe) I spent almost my entire national dowry in fortifying the provinces from separatist rebels before a huge chunk of them declared independence having not taken any of my own provinces (just a few of Spain's adjacent provinces). I ended up, after finally occupying all of their land and seeing that the war score wasn't enough to even take back my own provinces, annexing them via console then giving Spain back their provinces for free. I felt bad about it after so when Louisiana did the same thing I simply took the provinces I could afford in the wardeal.
