So I know we can play nicely with dwellings and integrate them but what happens when we outright conquer one? The in game wiki nor the internet wiki explains what happens if you go the warlike route.

Same as a Landmark I guess. Automatic level 5 sector waiting to be connected to a Colony.
I can't imagine the result would be that different to integrating one.

Dwellings are max level exploitations for their given resource, Growth is lvl 5 food, PSI-fish are lvl 3 aquatic, etc. Taking them by force should come with significant reward and NPCs are generally willing to give you a cheap peace deal after losing a dwelling. Cheap in terms of energy and influence, usually (maybe always?) they'll want their city back.

Yeah it's a free lvl 5 exploitation and some goodies for clearing it. But the dwellings are easier to conquer than silver landmarks because you can use strategic ops on the defenders and attack with multiple stacks.

The biggest advantages of a lvl 5 exploitation is that the sector building also gets a lvl 5 bonus, for production buildings this means +3 armor for the units you produce which is huge.

Unfortunately you can't seem to purchase units this way. The only way to get units of the faction is to integrate them. Please correct me if I am wrong because I would love to find another way after my relationship went from max and about to integrate all the way back to the lowest level after AI sabotaged my relationship

I heard that taking a dwelling from an npc faction like spacers, psi fish, etc have reprecussions serious ones if you do it very early in game you basically end up at war with entire world populated by that faction. But that was from a dev journal so don't hold it to me.

You only need to get them back to Peace before you can start purchasing units again.
I don't know if you are required to give back the Dwelling sector before you can do that though.

Yes but conquering the dwellings doesn't let you recruit any of the high tier units. I just feel like the costly act of warring with a very high tier stack should get you more than just a level 5 sector. This is because you are now at war with a faction that will harass you for the rest of the game and the only way for peace is eliminating all dwellings (unlikely) or giving back the sector. At which point you are back to the worst relationship level

See the problem here is that you want access to their high tier units.
As a Kir'ko seeking revenge, I'm quite happy taking that level 5 production sector from those filthy Spacers and I am quite happy to clear my land of their useless corpses.
They can harass me all they want. They will not survive.

If you actually wanted to be friendly with them, why did you conquer their dwelling? (Okay it used to work in AoW:3, but we were warned that it wouldn't work this time.)

Oh, I should add that conquering a Dwelling is a good way to get T3/4 equipment. It isn't just about getting the Sector.
I got a T4 psionic melee weapon for conquering that Spacer trash-pit. :D

NPC factions aren't too scary and I think if you're at peace with the other faction you get a reward for every 10 units you kill of the NPC faction you're at war with. Usually the first reward seems to be 100 research.

Getting friendly with one NPC faction and going to war with the other gives you lots of goodies and saves you having to pay them off. If I don't like the first NPC faction I meet I just go to war with them immediately. Also gets you a very early bonus T1 unit.
